I'm not nearly as high on Tate as a long-term every-week fantasy starter as some on these forums are, but I'd still rather have him.

Agreed, Tate is still a back-up, but he's proven he can run in the NFL. Also, he's in year 3 of his rookie contract.

im not sure if tate is actually going into the 3rd year of his rookie contract. i think if a rookie player is put on IR before logging any nfl playing time, as tate was, then essentially that does not count as a year served on their contract. this situation also happened with michael bush, who was on IR for his rookie season with the raiders. because of that, he hit free agency one year later than he would normally have been scheduled had he not been placed on IR. im not sure if it changed under the new cba or not, but if it hasnt, tate should be fosters handcuff for a couple more years.

that being said, id still go with tate. he has real feature back potential one day and could be a stud. i just hope it wont turn into a jonathan stewart type situation.

I think tate's year of service counts as he was injured in service of the texans & bush injured in college - regardless the length of the contract doesn't change w/ an injury even if credited years of service does .

as to the question - tate is the choice proven production & the texans will run it a ton - hillman was a reach in the 3rd & the broncos are a passing team now

I will vote Tate and wonder why Hillman was even compared to him.

Tate is more talented but will be very interesting to see what happens when he gets contract next year.....the texans o line and zone scheme are big reasons he has enjoyed so much early success IMO if he goes to a weak o line team(very good chance that happens) I doubt he will be nearly as productive...he has talent though

This is an easy Tate decision as he is proven. Hillman should be great but has yet to prove anything.

Tate and it isn't close. Tate ran for 900+ as a back up.
