Dalvin Cook Vs Sony Michel

Postby Patsfan86 » Sat Jan 26, 2019 7:07 am

Who is more valuable right now? Full disclosure I am a Sony owner and a Pats fan, so you guessed it I lean Sony. With that said we cant just ignore Sonys playoff performance thus far like it didn't happen. 242-5 in last 2 games is insane. Had this two game run happened during the fantasy season these boards would be buzzing about Sony. He should be way above cook in my opinion but again I am biased so I want to hear thoughts. And yes Sonys involvement in the passing game is non existent.

They are both very talented. The biggest knock for Cook is injury and for Sony is situation. I swear Sony almost always picks up 5 yards or the 1st. He's the kind of runner they've needed for a while, but there are 3 other RB in NE that steal carries any given day. Add in the fact that he catches 0 balls and he worries me a bit.

I have Sony and would trade him for Cook

Dalvin because he catches way more passes.

I like Michel and yes I own him as my 3rd RB. The knock shouldn't be that Michel doesn't catch balls but while playing for Georgia they didn't target their RB's that often. While at Georgia, Michel led all RB's in 2016 and 2017 with catches (over Chubb). Georgia just doesn't throw to their RB's much. In Gurley's last year with Georgia (2014) he only caught 18 passes.

The stat line for Sony Michel (Georgia) is:

Year
2014 410 rush yards/ 7 Receptions for 106 yards
2015 1126 rush yards/ 26 receptions for 270 yards
2016 840 rush yards/22 receptions for 149 yards
2017 1227 rush yards/9 receptions for 96 yards

The stat line for Cook (Florida St) is:
2014 1008 rush yards/ 22 receptions for 265 yards
2015 1691 rush yards/ 24 receptions for 244 yards
2016 1765 rush yards/ 33 receptions for 488 yards

I think that New England will start throwing the ball to Michel more and more as his game develops. But for the time being, NE still has White and Burkhead. Unless NE picks a true WR1 and I think once Burkhead leaves Michel will starts getting targeted more in the passing game then he will become a stud RB. But to answer the question I don't think you can go wrong with either one and a lot depends on your team. In fact I would be surprised if McDaniels pulls a fast one in the SB and starts targeting Michel. Good luck!!

Cook caught 40 balls this year in 11 games. Regardless of what they did in college, Cook is way more involved in the passing game at this level. White just signed a new deal, so Michel's pass catching upside appears non existent for the remainder of his rookie deal, pretty much, barring injury to White.

Cook seems to have the higher ceiling because of his pass catching ability but based on production Michel so far. Cook is very overvalued in my opinion and hopefully Michel starts to get more pass catching opportunities moving forward.
