Golladay 2019

Postby ajf235 » Mon Dec 24, 2018 3:14 pm

Would you feel good starting the 2019 season with Kenny Golladay as your locked-in WR2 assuming you got Odell or Julio as your WR1? Or do you guys think Golladay is gonna be inconsistent and unreliable next year?

I would not feel comfortable with him as my 2. I like the guy but I think he would need to be a WR3 on a championship roster

Totally agree. Needed the confirmation. He’s the type of guy with WR1 upside but until he shows that I can’t even trust him as my WR2. W/e though I still like his long term potential.

I'm with you here. Him and Corey Davis are interchangeable

Davis owners WISH their guy had put up the numbers Golladay has been doing.

Yeah I totally disagree on the Davis comparison. They both have WR1 upside and WR3/4 floor but as an owner of both: Golladay ($3) and Davis ($17), I think Golladay def is more trustworthy in 2019. He’s literally the SOLE offensive threat on the Lions rn and he’s being a true NFL number 1 for the first time in his career and putting up good numbers against top notch corners no less. Not to mention he’s on a team with a QB who’s supported multiple WR1s in a season before. Next year, I expect the Lions to have a better o line, Kerryon will keep defenses honest and Marvin Jones and potentially an early-to-mid-draft pick on a WR stretches coverage away from Golladay but I still think he’ll be the main target hog on his team. Corey Davis is tied to a struggling, injury-prone QB who’s never supported a single WR1 in a season, let alone two. I was starting to like Corey after the bye but Henry’s emergence brings him down another notch for me. The Titans just wanna run the ball 35 times a game now. For the same price, gimme Golladay all day.

I think a more apt comparison to Golladay is Diggs or Thielen in 2016. He’s already putting up bigger numbers in his second season than Diggs did in his second season.

I can't deny Golladays sitaution is 100x better than Davis. If roles were reversed I think you'd see the same numbers for each team. We will never know though

Oh and Golladay for 1/6 of Davis cost shouldn't even be a question

Yeah obviously. I’m keeping Golladay without a second thought and dropping Davis this offseason. I’m just saying that even at the same price I trust Golladay WAY more. Although they have similar ceilings, with Davis’s ceiling potentially higher still.

Regardless, I think Golladay’s arrow is pointing way up from 2019 on. He’s averaging 11.5 half PPR PPG in just his second year. To put this into comparison, in 2016 (before their breakouts), Diggs averaged 11.6 PPG and Thielen 10.2. In their sophomore seasons, Evans and Hopkins averaged 11.7 and 12.2, respectively. Davante Adams wasn’t even a thought fantasywise in his second year. People need to realize that receivers have a longer breakout trajectory than RBs and Golladay looks to be on a similar trajectory to other young WR1s. Not everyone is Juju, Amari, Odell or Tyreek.

I've been the biggest Davis defender on here lately and I agree that Davis would probably be out producing Golladay's stats if he was on the Lions but as the situations are right now I think Golladay is the safer option. I'd feel alright with him as my WR2. He had a fantastic 2nd year in the league and I think the Lions offense that has traditionally been solid over the past few years will right the ship and that means more steady production for Golladay. Seems like the type of player to steadily improve over his career.
