Josh Rosen's Future

Postby The Golden Company » Sat Dec 15, 2018 1:14 am

As a huge Rosen fan coming out of college I thought he would have numbers close to Mayfield's right now (2877/19/10). I have to say his Rookie year has been a disappointment. I didn't expect him to have huge stats, but he hasn't even been able to crack the top 25 QB yet having started most of the year.

With Fitz looking to depart soon, and only having Kirk and DJ as weapons, along with new coaching staff, the future doesn't look bright.
With a new system he could always turn it around like Goff.

What's everybody's opinions?

I picked rosen at 2.7 and feel with a new OC, an off season to grow in the offense and hopefully some weapons added he will have a much better second year. Qb's tend to make a decent step from year 1 to year 2 and hope he continues that trend.

I don't care too much about stats for rookie QBs. I do care about the fact that Josh Rosen's mechanics are terrible. His delivery is so slow and he's just begging to be stripped every time he slings his arm out and up to heave the ball out. I get it, some QBs succeed even with terribly unorthodox mechanics (Phillip Rivers) but I'm not filled with optimism on Rosen

He needs a better o-line.

It's a really, really bad team but he's looked bad. Can't even point to one game to say "well he did it here". Still way too young to write him off but I've cooled.

I plan on offering Mariota for Rosen in a 12 team SF this offseason. We'll see.

I still like him, Goff was the worst graded QB by PFF in modern era or something like that his rookie season and the only real the thing that changed from year 1 to year 2 was the coaching and the O-line. I assume everyone in Arizona is getting fired and a new regime will take the reigns. Hopefully a strong offensive minded coach to help him grow. If they can improve their O-line and get a coach that knows how to use DJ then they could easily turn into the Rams of 2017. I know that's a bit optimistic but if they can have a successful offensive scheme that runs through DJ then his rookie woes will quickly fade away. Contrary to a previous poster I think Rosen still has the cleanest throwing motion of all the rookies and think he will have the ability to be a very accurate short and intermediate passer which should align perfectly with Kirk and DJ's skill set.
