Nick Chubb's Ceiling

Postby ajf235 » Fri Oct 26, 2018 10:21 am

What does everything think Nick Chubb's ceiling is in 2019-2021?

I'm thinking it's something like 2017 Leonard Fournette (minus the injuries) or 2016 Jordan Howard. Thinking it's about 300 touches with 30-40 receptions for 1,600 or so total yards and 12-15 TDs annually is about his ceiling with his floor being Isaiah Crowell (unlikely imo). What are everyone's thoughts?

I think it's dumb to project a rookies "ceiling." I bet we all thought Kamara's ceiling was a Darren Sproles role. I bet none of us considered DJ's ceiling. Let's just appreciate that he's a top 10 rushing talent with unknown receiving capability that could allow him to have 40-50 receptions or 20-30 per season and that the Browns Offense can go nowhere but up. That could turn into 2,000 total scrimmage yards and 20 TD's or it could be 1,500 scrimmage yards and 8 TD's.

Yeah, it kind of depends how Baker and the Browns do as an organization. Look at Gurley with the Rams. Poor coaching/situatuion, not so good, change the coaching situation, he's now lethal.

There have been 10 such seasons the last 5 years. I don't think Chubb ever posts a top 2 RB season so I will say significantly lower than OP. He looks like a 13 ppg guy.

Haha I never projected 2,000 yards and 20 TDs. But based on what he’s shown thus far, I don’t think it’s out of the question that he churns out multiple 1,500-1,600 total yard, 10-12 TD seasons

Chubb is really good and has a very high ceiling. But what his ceiling is should not be the question, IMO. We know he was great in college. We know he tested well before the draft. We know the Browns think highly of him, and we know he can play well in the NFL.

What we don't know is who the Browns are going to have coaching the team in 2019, and we shouldn't ever discount the importance of the coach on a players performance.

So, how confident are we that the Browns make a good hiring choice?
I'm hopeful. But would it really surprise anyone if they followed the Raiders and pulled a guy out of retirement ... like Bill Cowher or Jeff Fisher?

There is a big difference between 10 TD and 15 TD as you originally said. If we think he gets passing game work moving forward his ceiling is high, otherwise he's a low RB1 in his good years and mid RB2 when he's nicked up or his offense struggles. Maybe Fournette with good health would be a good way to think of him from a production standpoint

Not even a big fan of LF but I think LF was a high end RB1 from a points per game stand point last year. Also Chubb's YPC is at 6.2 ( i know it'll go down by the end of the year) whereas LF had like 3.9 on a team that made the AFC championship. I'd say Chubb's ceiling is higher

I'm actually quite hopeful on this front. With John Dorsey behind the scenes in Haslam's ear, and the future of the franchise clearly wanting his coach back in Lincoln Riley (worst kept secret in the league right now) - I'm actually slightly optimistic that they'll hire someone young and progressive for once. The young coaches are having their moment in the league right now; everyone wants to find the next McVay.

This may not be your daddy's old Cleveland Browns... Since John Dorsey has been GM, they've been making great moves. Then again, they're still rotten at the top with Haslam, so sure, there's always a chance of *gulp* the FISHER man. Hope not!
