McCaffrey vs Cohen

Postby CrimeLord » Tue Jul 03, 2018 9:57 am

I'm not saying they're equal, but I've noticed a lot of similarities yet they carry a large ADP difference. Thoughts?

Similar:
- great pass catchers
- dynamic in space
- not bell cows
- young
- coaches excited to utilize them

Different:
- NFL draft capital
- offenses they play in (although it seems that gap should shrink this year)
- McCaffrey a little bigger / more able to run between tackles
- startup ADP: McCaffrey 2.07, Cohen 7.10 (12 team)

Feels very much like a trolling post...

McCaffrey isn't a "little" bigger, he's a LOT bigger. Players of Cohen's size have limited to no success in the NFL. He's going to have to defy a long, long history to overcome the odds that are against him. McCaffrey is a very typical size for a versatile back that contributes both as a runner and receiver. Anyone who thinks McCaffery can't be a bell cow back in the NFL needs to go back and watch his work at Stanford. He put just as much on film as did the rest of the beloved RBs from his class (more in many cases). The Panthers have only scratched the surface of how they will be able to utilize him moving forward.

Pretty simple.

One is a mid level RB1 with upside given he will rarely leave the field and the other is a spot flex play that will only be on the field part time. Surprised this is even a question but maybe you are new and there is nothing wrong with that.

Yep. Cohen is a gadget piece, nothing more, IMO. No different to Tavon Austin, but he might find slightly more success, but it will always be a limited role, I fear.

i dont think the point of the post was to say these two are close in actual value, as he says clearly that hes not saying that.

i believe the point was that if you are looking for a rb with a high reception floor and a good chance to also contribute some ground game stats then maybe you would be better served targeting cohen at a much cheaper price than you would be using an early pick on cmc just to watch it unfold similarly to chicago where cja plays howard and cmc plays cohen.

the major difference is that cmc should be almost guaranteed 15 touches a game and cohens good games will be when he is given 15 or more touches (which will happen rarely/sporadically)

thats how i interpreted the post (pointing out value for a similar role) most will say the production gap will be much larger than maybe the OP is thinking.
