It's close enough that personal preference certainly comes into play, but I think Michel is definitely more talented.

Agreed. Just wanted to see how close it would be. Their situations couldn't be more different.

Would you put Penny and Chubb ahead of them?

I'll go Sony, I always go talent over situation unless they are close in talent. I don't believe Freeman is that good and I think NE isn't as bad as being made out.
If you believe Freeman is close to Sony's talent level thrn I can see you picking Freeman.

just look thru the history of NE running backs and see if Michel still interests you. Even the last 1st round RB they had, Maroney, had about 2 seasons around 1k yards and 1 more ok season and that was it.

Last true high end season by a RB there was Stevan Ridley in 2012, then he was outlawed in 2013 due to "fumblitis" and he has 6 career lost fumbles. tore his acl and mcl in 2014 but was already pretty much written off as a fumbler by then and never got another shot.

Even when kevin faulk was a long standing member of the Patriots backfield as a 2nd round pick his best seasons were around 1000 total yards and usually 3-5 TDs

talent heck yes, landing spot hurts him(sony), but Chubb has to secure as just a crowded backfield and that is not a given..For the record I think Sony is the 3rd most talent back in the draft but the landing spot crippled him.. but if he was some how to get most of the work he would be a monster but dont see that happening Freeman is a jag to me great landing spot is all and Penny hit the lotto but I question if he can do it but possible.

Give me Michel all day long, He's the most talented RB the Patriots have had in a Decade....its also the least talent backfield the Patriots have had in years....no Dion, James white isn't a threat until the playoffs, Burkhead was serviceable but I think he proved last year he can't handle anything more than a complimentary role, Hill and Gillislee and complete trash. Give me the 3rd most Talented RB in the draft class that gets 200-220 touches in a NE backfield vs this 8th most talented runningback in broncos offense that has tons of question marks.

Michel for me too. Playing in a comittee doesn't mean a player can't put up decent numbers, just look at the Saints RBs last year. Kamara was downgraded because of the other RBs on the roster, and it turned out just fine. Michel is not exactly Kamara, but I could see the Patriots use him in similar ways.

Last year was a historic anomaly. You never see 2 backs on the same team finish as RB1s. It was a total freak event of a year.

I agree with you on Michel over Freeman, and I even think it's possible that Michel has similar talents to Kamara - but to say "if he's in a committee he'll be fine" is whistling past the graveyard. If Michel only gets 50% of the workload in NE, he will not be someone you ever want to start on a weekly basis.

Well, I didn't even mean to refer to the double RB1 finishes of the NO backs. To me, there were also other RB tandems who did "just fine". However, that also depends on my perspective, since I'm exclusively playing in 32 team single-copy leagues, so anyone who sees the field regularly is startable. Don't need a star-studded roster to win. I won my first title in 2012 with a WR group of Dwayne Bowe, Rod Streater (rookie) and Donald Jones.

The question was, Michel vs Freeman. To me, it's just easily Michel, regardless of the perceived current situtation.

Royce Freeman feels like this years Samaje Perine. A decent back that landed in a "perfect spot"
