Let’s discuss the mid-tier TEs

Postby OhCruelestRanter » Mon Mar 19, 2018 5:24 am

How would you rank these guys? There appears to be a value chasm after the top 4 of Gronk, Kelce, Ertz and Engram. Here is the next big group of TEs, sorted by alphabetical order. How would you rank these cats?

Burton
Doyle
Eifert
Ebron
Graham
Henry
Hooper
Howard
Kittle
Njoku
Olsen
Reed
Rudolph
Seferian-Jenkins
Shaheen
Walker

There's a 2nd tier of guys in Howard, Henry, and Njoku.

After that, I like Rudolph, Little, Burton, and Ebron (situation looking bad?)

QB: Mahomes, Fields, Love
RB: Bijan, ETN, Pollard, Achane, Herbert

TE: Kyle Pitts, Goedert

It's really hard to "rank" a lot of these guys, for instance Walker and Olsen who could be top-5 TEs this year but if you're rebuilding, you'd probably sell for a 3rd!

I think it hurts Doyle a lot. 2 years for $15 mil leads me to believe Ebron is the top TE there. I know moving to Indy can't magically make Ebron's hands better, but Doyle had 21 more targets than Ebron last year so I'm hoping Ebron's production goes up.

Not at all. Ebron will struggle for more than 40 catches this year, I promise you. Doyle absolutely loses some ceiling here, but I still believe he's safe for low-end TE1 production.

Let's not forget, last year was the first season in years that Indy didn't throw to a PAIR of TEs, it's what they've always done (with Luck anyway). So this signing says much more about Swoope than it does Doyle.

They're definitely going to be running two TE sets like crazy with that WR depth. Ebron should easily hit 40 catches, and his situation improved greatly. His hands thing is overblown, yes he has some drops, but his catch rate isn't all that bad. He is still young as hell and in that new offensive scheme with a QB that loves his TE's, I think Ebron could surprise and become a low end TE1. I think Doyle is overrated personally, he was the product of a great situation and little competition.

Sure, but I deliberately didn't include rookies. I'm sure there are a fair number of people who prefer either Andrews or Gesicki to Goedert as well.

I'm with Lucky.
Doyle signed a similar contract last year to Ebron's. He's not taking a backseat. He will continue to work the middle of the field and redzone, most likely in the Ertz role while Ebron fills the Burton role in Reich's offense.
