TE Debate Engram - Howard - Njoku

Postby Weber27 » Thu Dec 21, 2017 6:44 am

Evan Engram - OJ Howard - David Njoku

Obviously Even Engram is having a huge year for a rookie TE but both Howard and Njoku have shown a lot of promise.

Do all of them in up in the top 5 at the position at some point? Njoku is on the browns which may hurt his value, but is the youngest of the 3 by 2 years. Accounting for age, situation, and talent, what do you except from these TE's going forward??

They all look like they could beast. I'm a Howard guy, but tried getting both him and Engram this past preseason. Njoku I havent seen enough of but he looks like a manchild. I'm most excited for Howard but Engram's rookie season was seriously impressive. Gerald Everett I'm hoping can turn into something special too in the LA offense

Can anyone give me any insight on Butt and 2018 Andrews?

I agree, I guess we should open this up to all the 2017 Rookie TE's because this class was ridiculous.

Jonnu Smith, Everett, Kittle, Sheehan, and Jake Butt

We haven't seen play yet, but like Sir Mix-a-lot I am a big Butt fan! He could have been a high draft pick if not for his injury. I think he has a lot of talent and as a Broncos fan I have heard the front office is really looking forward to him getting on the field. If he can stay healthy he will be a good one. I snagged him on the WW a few weeks ago to stash for free.

How do you guys rank them? Butt and Burton are on waivers, and we are limited to three TE's. (Team in sig) Havin a hard time choosing what three to hold for the offseason. Will only keep one going into 2018.

As an Engram and Njoku owner (got both with picks 2.05 and 2.09), both Engrams and Howard's situation seems promising but unpredictable. QB play on both teams, other weapons, questionable spots in coaching. Frankly, I like Njoku for the long-term. But can't deny how impressive Engram was in his rookie year, and how versatile he is as a player. Wouldn't be suprised to see him him lining up outside a lot more next year, and being an easy safety net for Eli or whatever QB is there anytime OBJ draws all the attention. Tough call - I'm buying on all 3, and have turned down some serious offers for both Engram and Njoku.

K/DEF: Irrelevant

So far Howard and Engram have separated themselves from Njoku. Engram had a phenomenal rookie year but is he still really valued that much more highly than Howard at this point? Howard has games like today where he absolutely explodes and is a big play monster. Thoughts on the difference between Howard and Engram?

Still would rather Engram in a vacuum pretty easily over Howard. Engram is a WR with a TE designation. Howard is a great 3 down TE and can actually block well but that may limit his receiving production. With that said I was trying to grab Howard all offseason in any league I could because of how cheap he's been compared to Engram. I think after last week Howard's value just sky rocketed

Howard looks like a faster Tony Gonzalez out there. Him and Engram are close but I give slight nod to Howard.

I do feel Howard has boom or bust written on him a bit but I love the guy. Engram may have the safer floor but like ive pointed out we have seen multiple huge plays from howard now. Plays that will win you games.

How do you stack up Henry compared to them? Right after Engram and Howard and before Njoku?

I definitely like Howard, but you have to have reservations on how dependent he & Brate are on who is the Bucs QB. Fitzpatrick obviously has a better rapport w/Howard but the exact opposite could be true if Winston regains his role as starter.

Brate can't hurt him if he's not on the field. He played 56% of snaps last year compared to only 32% so far this season. Until DJax goes down I think they prefer Godwin on the field over Brate.

Here are Howard's 16 game paces by snap %
60% snaps(14game sample) 16 game pace of 35-672-8
65% snaps(10games) 43-860-11 pace
70% (7games, inluding a 0 catch outing) 45-843-11 pace

He's played 65% or more in 7 straight healthy games and just hit his career high in week 2.

OJH is a big play and red zone monster and could be an elite fantasy weapon if he ever sees increased volume.
