AP Assessment

Postby KenAndTonic » Tue Oct 17, 2017 9:22 pm

What are people's thoughts on AP for the rest of the season given his recent performance? I was an AP believer all off-season, but completely changed my tune on him within a couple of weeks at the beginning of the year. I was just about to drop him when the trade to Arizona happened and decided to give him one last shot. Realistically, what is his value the rest of the season? I've held such opposing and extreme views in him the last several months, I need a voice (or voices) of reason. Thanks.

I traded for him in two leagues this off season and have held him hoping he would become relevant. I think he looked good in his first game for the Cardinals against a good Buccs rush defense. I know people have been pointing out the absence of defensive players like Kwon Alexander and Lavonte David may have been somewhat limited, but even without these players before this game they were ranked 8th best against the rush (now 10th ranked). I think this argument waters down what was actually a good showing by AP.

The elephant in the room at AZ though is the situation when DJ returns. Currently they are saying 19th November is the earliest (thanksgiving), this gives AP a few more weeks of what should be guaranteed work. I think AP owners can only hope that the cardinals win the next few games alongside some good performances by him which makes them want to limit DJ in the hopes for a play off run where they have two fresh RBs going forwards.

In terms of value I think team position and state factors in. For my team 1 I was offered a fourth for him by a within division team. Although it would be good to get something for an aging RB, as you can see I'm thin at RB and he was pretty much the reason I won this week. If I'm honest I would be wanting a second off a within division team for AP (which I doubt I wouldn't get) since it hinders my team that much and he has shown he has the upside he once had.

I'd be selling immediately if I owned any AP shares.

Thanks, it sounds like I am in a similar position as you. I consider myself strong playoff team, but weak at RB. I don't expect RB1 numbers out of him by any means, but if he could be a regular flex option with a few big games sprinkled in, I would be happy with that. I think that's realistic, but i wouldn't be surprised if he goes right back to being a 32 year old running back, either.

If I make a contender and need an RB stopgap due to injury then I will roll out AP every week until DJ is back.

If I have enough depth or am rebuilding then I'm selling him immediately.

I don't even see him being viable as a flex when DJ is back and fully healthy.

Sell him while he is hot. You know he is not the future and will have value for a few weeks. He will take a backseat to DJ.

Too late now. AP had one lucky game in which the Cards oline somehow played well. If you didn't sell already you're out of luck now. And if you bought after that one game, well that's on you and you should've known better.
