David Johnson vs Mike Evans

Postby OCPunisher » Wed Aug 16, 2017 1:25 pm

Who do you prefer?

Small backstory (if that's allowed here):
- I have Evans, looking to move him for DJ
- Running backs are still worth their weight in gold, regardless of all the pro-receiver content DLF and other sites can pump out.
- The current DJ-owner believes he's the #1 asset in dynasty (yeah, that's right) and wants Evans plus something to move him.
- Both of us made the playoffs last year, and both are likely in the mix for the playoffs at this early point in the preseason.

Two of dynasty's top assets.

I'm keeping my Evans here due to longevity factor. I think it could 8 years vs 4.

Evan is a top tier WR with Winston throwing at him for years to come.... You also got Djax to open up the field, so my guess is he'll do extremely well this year. I personally don't value RBs as much as WRs.

I consider them even in value, I wouldn't add anything on to either side to get a trade done. DJ will product more points than Evans but for fewer years so I value them about the same over the course of their careers.

I think this can go either way and will come down to preference... as a dj owner... I would never trade him for evans, and I surely would not add to him... but for reference, last year right before playoffs, I tried to aquire evans and I asked the owner what it would take, and told him I was pretty open as I was quite deep, I was willing to package a few good players. he told me any conversation on evans would have to start with dj at minimum... I laughed and said no thanks, and that was the end of it..
I realized the WR last longer, evans has a good young QB, and over the next 10 years worth of points, there is no question evans will win that... but I think over the next 4-5, dj will hands down.. so if im in position to win now, id rather have dj..

Agree with the last post.

DJ for the short term is more of a difference maker if you are in the mix to win it all. Only two RB's are considered in his class and then it is a decent drop off after them.

Evans is in the elite level along with about 5 or so other WR's. Then even the next group has potential to match production on any given year.

So in summation I wouldn't be adding anything to DJ. Nor would I even trade DJ straight up for Evans if I'm in a position to win. Only if I was in a complete long term rebuild would I make the deal and even then I wouldn't add to DJ because the team getting him is probably setting up to win a title with him.

As an Evans owner and Bucs fan, Evans isn't going away, he's the real deal. The Winston connection to him is just beginning. Now, so is DJ, but we don't know Evans ceiling yet after another great year. Like said above, you can have that for 6-9 years vs 3-5 in DJ. Evans gives you a larger window to win, and that, is why we play the game. Good luck this year.

Mike Evans here, and the reason is, the absolute hardest player to find is a consistent WR1 that will bring you points week in and week out. RB's for the most part are low paid players that are easier to find and replace than an elite top 3 WR with deep threat, speed, and big play ability, as well as built rapport with their star QB. RB's that do get the "Lions share" of carries are constantly taking hits and much more prone to injury when fed the ball constantly. Defenses tune in on backfields, they get exposed. Yes DJ is a beast, and of course they over hand him the ball so he gets plenty of points for you, but his long term effects on his knees, his body, will all be exposed over short time if they continue playing him that way. Think about guys like Ajayi who has a knee issue. Did it ever occur to you that they feed players over and over again until they break down, while Ajayi might think he's gonna get paid the big bucks, he's actually being run down for a reason?
Time for the next guy up..that is the RB market. Running backs playing for the money, though it's still a business. Coaches using and abusing to save the team money get to keep their jobs. Hence the Bell holdout. Always go with the best WR1, regardless the points a year before. Backfields change constantly! Consistency and long term is key.
