Gronk or Gordon?

Postby Dyno_7 » Thu May 04, 2017 8:17 am

I'm interested in acquiring Melvin Gordon, but I want to be careful on how much I offer. So I am brainstorming some possible trade ideas. Which side wins? If it's lopsided, what rookie draft picks could be applied to either side in order to balance them out?

Gordon for me. A mid 1st would probably close the gap.

Gordon based on age and lack of back surgeries. id say a 2nd round pick would close the game or throw in a young upside player like a cam meredith or marquise lee

Gordon is safer. I think Gronk is becoming a risky boom or bust proposition.

This poll is pretty close, but the responses are unanimous on the Gordon side.

I picked Gordon, fairly easily. He's the RB4 in my eyes based on what the Chargers did in the draft-no competition, not even a passing down back, and they solidified their o-line. I would consider moving him for Gronk if I needed a TE to push me over the top and had good RB depth or if I was in a TE prem league.

I voted Gordon primarily because of Gronk's health issues. He is such a huge target and damaging player that he's always an injury risk. If this was a video game and we could edit his injury risk to 100% then I'd take Gronk. He's so dominant when he's playing and he is Brady's GO-To #1 option when healthy.

However, when thinking Dynasty and considering the health issue, give me Gordon. I just read an article that talked about Talent, Opportunity, and Environment as being metrics to determine a player's fantasy value. Yes, Gronk exceeds within all of these metrics, however he loses when you consider the injury history. Gordon is in a great environment, showcased the talent, and is the lead back with rare 3 down workhorse potential, especially with Woodhead out of town.

If he can build off of his success last season then the sky is the limit, IMO.

Thanks everyone. Some good feedback here. Gordon's value certainly increased after the draft, so I wanted to see if I could afford him.

Gordon has been an inefficient runner so far in the NFL, he just happened to score a bleep ton of TDs last year. While that's partially a product of being in a good offense, TDs are also very inconsistent so he's due for regression. Makes him more of a high-mid RB2 going forward for me.

Gronk is an elite asset at TE. I'll take Gronk.
