Engram Vs. Njoku

Postby jcc6fd » Sun Apr 30, 2017 4:18 pm

Seems like a debate that needs to be had. I feel like most will take Engram here, but personally I'm a Njoku guy.

Engram will perform sooner, but Njoku has the higher ceiling.

Agree with this. Engram is a pretty safe pick as long as the Giants use him as expected but Njoku could be special.

Instinctively, I like Engram. Replace Eli with a Brady, Brees, Rodgers, Luck, or any other stellar QB and it's not even close. I think they are trying to set things up for that NYG offense to be pretty dynamic. It's all up to Eli to bring it all together.

Just as Corey Coleman, Njoku will be limited due to his QB. Who the heck is it anyway?

It should be Kessler unless Kizer blows them away, but I don't think he's ready to run a pro style offense just yet.

To answer OP's question, I don't think you can go wrong. If you're in need of a TE to produce now, go with Engram. If you are rebuilding or have depth and can afford to wait, roll the dice on Njoku. The Browns are headed in the right direction and should be able to nab a great QB by this time next year.

I agree with this, but I can also see Njoku having a larger target share just based off surrounding talent.

No disagreement here. I'm encouraged to see others who beleive Njoku has the higher ceiling.

Maybe this is a moot point because Njoku does need some time to develop but the QB situation in CLE doesn't actually worry me. I think a TE who can win the intermediate routes will benefit from sub par QB play and especially if Kessler is throwing the ball with his popgun arm but decent mid-range accuracy.

I like Njoku. Less competition for targets, especially in the redzone. Plus, the risk should be small but if league formats ever get cute and classify Engram as a WR, it could torpedo his fantasy value.

My gut is telling me Njoku could be a bigger part of the offense than many expect year 1. My blind dart throw says 50rec/650yds/5tds.

My vote was based on situation. If Njoku was a NYG I'd vote for him, but Eli will do wonders for Engram.

Njoku for me as well. I think he will have a better rookie season than Engram also. I do not think he will be a top 10 TE or anything, but when they immediately released Barnridge that day after the draft, that said a lot to me. As others have stated, Njoku should only be behind Coleman for targets immediately. And whomever the QB is, should be able to stay behind CLE's line long enough to hit Njoku on the shorter routes. As stated previously, I also think Njoku has a higher ceiling. I would much rather draft Njoku (since, I think he has better long term value) than take Engram for the potential short term value (even though, I prefer Njoku in the short term as well). I also really trust Hue Jackson to get the most out of his playmakers.

NYG came out and said they want to use Engram as a traditional TE, any concern there?

Some but not much...honestly, they have to do this so opposing offenses can be kept a bit more honest (on whether its a pass or run play) when he is on the field, IMO.

Would think this means he stays on the field more. Maybe set up some mismatches against linebackers when he's inline.

A little because if they drafted him to be a traditional TE that means they're idiots and any hopes that they'll maximize his potential is pretty far fetched imo. He's a terrible blocker. If he adds weight to get better at blocking then he's not as dynamic a receiver. It could all just be coachspeak too, who knows.
