San Francisco's Receivers

Postby zelldawg26 » Fri May 26, 2017 5:28 pm

:boohoo:
I know, I know, but Garcon is no elite #1 and even if he was, he can't catch everything. If you had to pick one guy as a flyer. Who would it be? Why him?

Honestly, none of them. They are all on waivers in my 12 team league with deep rosters.

I guess gun to my head, I'd take my chances with Smelter. Don't expect any of them to do anything though.

I get that, and that's why most are out there as free agents.
But Garcon is their slot guy on the depth chart. They didn't add anybody this year while other teams with elite receivers did. I just feel that it's a camp to follow closely and through the preseason.

The 49ers look ridiculous with their adds on the defense but we all know you need to catch the ball in order to score points or teams will just stack the box against guys like Hyde and Williams.
Where are they headed and who will be the receivers to show up?
Kerley did last year and looked great at certain moments in PPR. I'm sure he got picked up a few times, but let's not forget this time last year Smelter was a low end 4th round sleeper and Ellington was injured throughout his career (also a 4th rounder). Both were practically out the entire 16 season with mediocre QB play.
Now I'm not saying Brian Hoyer is gonna be able to sustain the job in SF, but for a guy that has thrown for over 3,000 yards in a healthy season and yet only played a max of 6 games last year with Chicago, I don't think it's safe to just ignore and write off 49er WRs.
The fact is that the coaching staff are content with the pass catchers they have in these guys. Guys that we have hardly ever seen catch passes in the NFL, they see something we don't.
It's obvious Chip Kelly's system didn't work with Gabbert and Kaep at the helm, but if Lynch and Shanahan are going to succeed, they for one, either needed to draft a couple WR's in 17, or they have actually seen enough in the players that they have to trust winning games.
We know that Lynch and Shanahan are no dummies, so I'm curious as to what is out there to keep an eye on as far as these receivers go.

I was really hoping last year would turn into the Smelter/Burbridge show. I think they're both real good receivers and could be the future there honestly. Smelter has the size you want from a no.1 WR, he just needs to nurse those legs. I remember reading somewhere last year he had the biggest hands of any WR in the NFL. Whether or not that's true, I don't know. but I think he can be special. To me, if a guy like Meredith can get all the hype he has, then Smelter deserves a chance as well.

I think they're gonna pick up someone after roster cuts like DGB or someone like Eddie Royal and that'll be the guy to target.

I'm taking a flyer on Smelter in one league since he can be on Taxi squad for one more year and our league rosters are super deep. Probably wouldn't bother with any of them in my shallower leagues where there's always some decent prospects on the wire. There's always a Tyrell or Hurns every season who breaks out unexpectedly so if you're taking flyers you might as well chase the upside imo and none of the other guys have very high ceilings. Seasonal spot starters at best.

As a Niner fan this thread/poll makes my head hurt.

I loved Ellington coming out South Carolina but he's been injured the whole time. Burbridge has some decent potential. Smelter I've written off. I expect it'll be a lot of Garcon, Hyde, Williams, Juszcyk and some mish mosh combo/trio at TE.

Their viewing appeal will be along their D-Line with those 3 monsters + Aaron Lynch.
