Jacksonville Bulls - cap nightmare

Postby Cult of Dionysus » Fri Mar 27, 2015 7:35 am

Hi guys,

My Jacksonville Bulls are in salary cap purgatory. I have less than $750k available of my total $130m salary cap. This does not take into account the three 2015 rookies I will pick up (1.01, 1.07, and 1.11), who will cost me an additional $9.5m. Luckily, I can place all three rookies onto the Taxi Squad, where they accrue no cap hit until they get activated. However, I will likely need to activate Carlos Hyde ($3m) and at least two of my 2015 1st rounders to have a competitive season.

This means that I need to clear about $10m in contracts.

Any suggestions? I've give clear indications that I'd be willing to part with Jordan Cameron (3/$10.25m) for pennies on the dollar. But no one has shown any interest so far, except for Jules, who asked for 1.11 iirc. I doubt Reggie Bush (1/$11) would generate any more interest. I would prefer not to burn 1.07 or 1.11...

FYI, a cut contract causes a 75% cap hit over the duration of the contract. Meaning if I'd cut Cameron, my franchise would bear a cap hit of $7m in 2015, 2016 and 2017. Draconian!

D.

I'm not sure that I fully understand the rules. If Cameron, with 3 years left, is 2015-2017, then I presume that, say, Bush with one year is just 2015. Hillman, for instance, has 0 years left on his contract. Does that mean that you can cut him for free?

In any event, clear cuts (if you can't trade them for anything) are anyone with 0 and 1 years left on their contract. That would free up (if you take a 75% hit for each) 4.75 million. It's a start...

You might have to trade a player who is good plus one or two bad contracts and only get back a cheap contract in return. In other words, rather than trading, say, Cameron for pennies on the dollar, offer Cameron and Green for any minimum, one-year contract. Or even more -- maybe Ingram and Cameron (and Bush?) -- for any minimum, one-year contract. Things like that.

Good luck!

Just moved Ray Rice (1/$5m), Knile Davis (3/$2.25m), and 1.07 ($3m), as well as 4.02, 5.10 and a 2016 3rd for 1.05 ($3.5m). This trade cleared about $7m of cap space and gets me a top 5 pick as well.
