Rate my first dynasty auction draft (salary cap)

Postby RCarr » Tue Aug 29, 2017 5:58 am

So up until last night, I've never done an auction draft before, never mind a dynasty startup auction draft. Please tell me how I did!
10 team, 1ppr,$200 auction budget, 25 roster spots. 1QB, 2RB, 2WR, 1TE, 3FLEX (wr/rb/te), 16 Bench slots.
$250 salary cap starting next year. Player salaries increase by 10% or $1 yearly (whichever is higher).

Here's what I ended up with:

QB- Luck $12, Rivers $1, Manning $1
WR- Amari Cooper $28, DeAndre Hopkins $24, Demaryius Thomas $19, Alshon Jeffrey $19, Michael Crabtree $15, Kelvin Benjamin $9, Sterling Shepard $3, Robby Anderson $2, Cole Beasley $1
RB- CJ Anderson $10, Mark Ingram $10, Ty Montgomery $9, Jonathan Stewart $2, Duke Johnson $5, Rex Burkhead $3, James Conner $2, Giovani Bernard $1, Dion Lewis $1, Alfred Morris $1, Chris Thompson $1
TE- Travis Kelce $19, Hunter Henry $2

I kind of regret spending $12 on Luck, but he should be solid for the next 5+ years at a good price.

Thoughts? Any moves I should look to make?

I think you killed it, especially with your $10 and under selections. Nicely done.

Yeah, on the surface looks solid. Ten teams makes QB kinda weak, so I get the apprehension about Luck at that price.
Just a guy who loves fantasy football - specifically defense.

I'm not a huge fan of your running backs. CJ Anderson is so hit or miss and Sean Peyton doesn't seem like he has a problem benching Ingram. Ty Montgomery a first year converted running back too. Your WR's are strong so maybe look to move some for a running back.

One guy in my league went crazy and drafted David Johnson($64), LeVeon Bell($59), and Ezekiel Elliot($52). Obviously, the rest of his team is garbage. What do you think of offering him Luck, Hopkins, and either CJ Anderson / Ingram / Montgomery for one of those 3 studs?

Overall, nicely done. Biggest blunder is spending double-digit dollars on a QB in a single QB league. I've never done that and never will. I am in a similar league as yours, and have Brees at 7 and Carr at 2.

Your WRs are stellar, very good job of not overspending $40 plus dollars on one sexy name. I just don't like that you've doubled up on OAK's WR's in having both Cooper and Crabtree. I would look to get maximum value for Cooper.

Your RB's are OK. it's clear you prioritized WR's, as I tend to go the zero RB route myself. However, my observation on RB's/WR's for dynasty: it only gets harder to sign a young, cheap stud RB, WR's get easier and are more available throughout the season/draft. In redraft your plan works to a tee (imo) - not so much in dynasty. I made this mistake in one of my dynasty startups, and am still paying for the fact that my starting RB's are CJA, Demarco, Powell and Mack.

Henry for 2 bucks is a steal.

Overall, very nicely done.
