Cooks v Landry

Postby ADrunkenCaveman » Mon Feb 06, 2017 12:22 pm

Team 2 in sig.

Curious on thoughts of what the difference is between these guys?

I have Cooks and was thinking of trying to trade for Landry. I am not a big supporter of Cooks for whatever reason and this is a salary cap league.

Cooks is locked into a $49.61/yr for 5 more years
Landry is locked into a $27.50/yr for 3 more years

Salary cap is $1000.

Since you're the one constantly giving me feedback, which I appreciate, here are our extension rules:
Every year we get 3 extensions.

2RFA- if RFA is used at the end of the next contract we can extend again or let them go to auction. If we let them go to auction we have the right to match the highest bid to retain the player.

1UFA- If UFA is used at the end of the next contract they HAVE to go to auction and you cannot match the highest bidder after over. To retain the player you must BE the highest bidder.
Ex: Used 4 year UFA on Brady because he might not be playing in 4 years so wouldn't need to try and bid for him.

**If the player finishes back to back seasons in top 10 salaries get bumped after contract currently in is over, but if RFA can still extend after contract is up.

To sum it up YES lol both can be extended and both are on RFA extensions currently so retaining the player would be 100% up to me and if the salary makes sense at the time of contract end date.

If you prefer Landry to Cooks (or if you think that they're close), then go with Landry.

I wouldn't, though. I think that Cooks is worth extra money, and I think that his upside is higher than that of Landry's. In addition, even though Landry has had a remarkable first three years, I tend to worry about the longevity of WRs who play primarily in the slot.

Finally, while I don't know how much typical top-15 WRs go for in your league, I have to imagine that Landry AND Cooks are relative bargains. If that's true about Cooks, then the extra protected years at a discount are an advantage.

One counter-argument: if you do think that Landry is likely to be close to Cooks for the next 5+ years, then this is easily in his favor since all those years will be far cheaper -- and you'd be getting similar production.

In sum, this is a really a player preference.

I prefer Cooks by miles...I'm talking oceans, ahead of Landry, so for a few $$ more give me Cooks.

That said, I am all about making a roster/assets better, so if you can move Cooks for Landry and get some really serious ++ that helps your team, then go for it.

What would you need on top of Landry to get a deal done? below is his team:

Man what a mediocre roster, no wonder he wants Cooks.

Try and get a 1st out of him. Or squeeze him for Prosise and a pick.
