Trade Advice

Postby ADrunkenCaveman » Tue Jan 31, 2017 8:01 am

Team 2 in sig. $1000 salary cap.

Current Cap Remaining: $65.50

I recently acquired AJG for $290/year and he needs to be extended. If we extend his salary goes up 5%. AJG would cost me 304.5/year for up to a 4 year contract.

I have offered this to the Hopkins owner. Hopkins is locked in at $59.04/year and has 3 years remaining.

I Give: AJG ($304.5/yr) + 2.6 + 2018 1st
I Get: Hopkins ($59.04/yr)

The move saves me $245.46 in cap + $65.50 I currently have = $310.96. This would allow me to get another RB in the FA auction and I would have Hopkins(3), Evans(4), & Cooks(5) locked up for multiple years at cheap contracts going forward, years in ().

I know it looks like I am giving up a ton because I am. I took over the team this offseason and before some moves it only had ~$35 in cap space.

What are your thoughts??

As the Hopkins owner I am keeping hime for several reasons. First at only 59 bucks the cost of extending hopkins is minimal. Second, taking on that much cap to get those picks doesn't entice me. Lastly the age variation in players.

To get a player that cheap you are going to have to give more. If you want to get cap space I think you need to focus on a playear in the next lowest tier. A Keenan Allen or Cobb.

Would it make a difference if I added a 2018 2nd as well?

EASILY the Hopkins side here, and adding a 2nd-round pick would do nothing for me. Hopkins and AJG are both WR1s (though I do like AJG a lot better for the next three years). But, AJG is not worth almost 25% of the total cap more than Hopkins. Think of all the players that you could get for ~$240 of a ~$1,000 cap: players much better than a first-round pick and a couple of second-round picks would yield.

When first offered, the Hopkins owner was very interested and was going to do some research so I simply sent an email to him offering the 2018 2nd to see if that would tip the scales. From what you're saying it would do nothing for you because you are sold on keeping Hopkins, but I think it could be a tipping point if he was already showing some interest in doing the trade.. Worth a shot anyways.. Plus I feel like in salary you need the rookies to hit sooner rather than later most of the time.

Ahhh... If the Hopkins owner were already interested, then I would definitely add another piece to push him to make the deal. Good luck!!
