How do leagues handle players coming of their contract and 'fair valuing' them so they original owner can resign them? We are going into our 2nd year and trying to figure out a unbiased system.
This is what we came up with. Using www.dynastyfftools.com 'player value' and then taking the total value of the top 240 players (12 teams * 20 roster spots) and then taking the total salary available of $2,400 (12 teams * $200), dividing those to get $/value, then multiplying that by each players value. Here is what it came up with.

The numbers looked a little low for the top guys so did the top 100 players value to see. What do other league do?

Bruiser, can you explain whats in your signature? the "12-team league player values"?
Re: Signing players after contract is up (Fair Valuing playe
Pretty much exactly the league that is in your signature. I ran a study in April to determine the most common dyno format and came up with what you have there. I pushed two years' worth of player scores using the poll results and came up with the value chart in my sig for ya'll to use. It is just an illustration of positional scarcity. You have to project who you think is QB6, RB15, etc. etc.
The cap was figured using the typical $200 auction budget to give players like yourself a guide to dollar valuing these players.
Looks like you've good deal on the Roethlisberger contract, a CJA contract that needs moved, Evans needs to pan out as WR12 to be worth the money, etc. You can start to target trades with this.

We do as well but only for one player that an owner designated as an RFA. Those players are auctioned first.millworkguy wrote:We give owners the right to match match high bid,
Re: Signing players after contract is up (Fair Valuing playe
We have two options.
Option A:) Franchise Tag a player (one per team) and keep him for another year for the average salary of the top 5 players at that position. If you chose this option for a player, they will be eligible for a second Franchise Tag (nothing beyond) at the average salary of the top 5 players at that position + 30%. If a player was kept by the original team through an RFA Auction, they are not eligible for Franchise Tagging.
Option B:) RFA Auction. Any players coming off of contract are eligible for RFA Auction (with the exception of a Franchise Tagged player coming off of contract). This auction is held through a message board on the league site during the off season and prior to the rookie draft. Any team may bid on the RFA eligible player but the owning team need only match the highest bid to keep that player. This is where it gets a little complicated. If the owning team takes a player back through RFA auction, they may only extend that player by 2 years. If a team picks up an RFA eligible player that was not already on their roster, they may sign them for up to 4 years.

Here is how we handle it in 2 different leagues. hope it helps.
Look under the offseason section for Franchise Tag and RFA tag information
