How should contenders handle the start of FAAB?

Postby Reno McCoy » Sat Jul 09, 2016 8:58 am

I'm curious to know how you think contenders should deal with the opening of free agency. Let's say you're right in the middle of the league as far as money to spend, and you feel your team is good enough without any additions to make a run in the playoffs.

Do you consider paying more than market value to secure 1-2 players you want? Or do you gauge worth and stick to those numbers?

Do you go after the 1-3 best players regardless of position, or do you go after only players from the position you're weakest at (such as lacking depth at WR)?
16-team salary/contract league (start QB, RB, 2WR, 1TE, 2Flex, K, 2DL, 2LB, 2DB, 1 DEF FLEX)

QB: Foles, Bortles, Brissett, Mullens
RB: Bell, Ingram, Guice, Singletary
WR: Landry, Boyd, Shepard, Allison, Pettis, Kirk, Gallup, M. Brown
TE: Ertz, Everett
DL: Dunlap, Hunter, J. Allen, McKinley
LB: Ogletree, Wagner, Telvin Smith, Devin Bush, Eric Kendricks, Tavai
DB: Reshad Jones, H. Smith, Collins
K: Badgely, Elliott

Buy depth/value first whilst the other teams are scrambling over a few names. The players for a couple bucks who are 2nd tier producers are your roster lifeblood from year to year.

Once those are taken care of blow your budget on whoever is still there.

That approach will tend to protect you from your own worst mistakes/instincts. A healthy number of the low-cost players will bust too but who cares?
