Countdown to the NFL Draft: 1.08 Vikings

Postby meineymoe » Tue May 06, 2014 5:33 pm

I think this would be a possible landing spot for QB Blake Bortles.

They do have a need at LB, but won't get a shot at Mack, while they will be able to get someone in the next tier in the second round.

The Viking fans I've talked with hope that they trade down if they are targeting a QB, but not sure that is really an option... but they can always let their time lapse and select him a pick later!

Agreed. That's my pick too based on what I've been reading.

Linebacker - C.J.Mosley I bet.... Not sure I like it as a Vikes fan but I could see them going that way. Qb likely with their 2nd round pick.

The Vikings need a QB, but I just don't think they take one this early in the 1st. There is a chance they trade back into the first later on. I do see Zimmer going with a defensive player that will make an immediate impact. Someone that will man the middle of the field for the next ten years. My pick for the Vikings is CJ Mosley.
12 team-PPR-49 man roster IDP 1QB, 2 RB, 3 WR, 1 TE, 1 Flex(rb/wr/te), K, 1 DT, 1 DE, 2 LB, 1 DB, 1 Flex (DL,LB,DB)
QB - Ryan, Winston, McCarron
RB - Hunt, Hyde, CJ Anderson, Dixon, Stewart
WR - Julio Jones, Hopkins, Allen, Jeffrey, Cobb, Moncrief, Floyd, Nelson, Rogers, Godwin
TE - Olsen, Ertz, Doyle, Cook
K - Lutz
DT - McCoy, Linval Joseph
DE - Mario Edwards, Avril, Graham
LB - Kirksey, Alexander, Timmons, Trevathan, McKinney, Minter
DB - Jenkins, Byron Jones

I like Bortles quite a bit and would really like the Vikings taking him here.
However we have more needs on our football team (Vikings fan).
I would love to see the Vikings take Aaron Donald here. Some have compared him to Geno Atkins which is a perfect fit for Mike Zimmer.
CJ Mosley would be nice but he is more of an inside run stuffer. Ryan Shazier would be a nice pick because he is an athlete, can play more in space, and can help in coverage against all these WR/TE in the NFC North.

Ultimately I think the Vikings need to trade down or take Aaron Donald with their pick.
With their 2nd round pick, they NEED to take Zach Mettenberger. The reason everyone thinks Bortles is such a good fit is because Norv Turner loves those big bodied pocket passer type QBs. This is the best of both worlds, you help out the defense and you get that big body at QB. Quite a few people have Mettenberger with the strongest arm in the QB class. I hope the Vikings use this strategy, but knowing them and how they picked dumpy Christian Ponder so high, it wouldn't surprise me if they took Bortles.

Ultimately, this pick should be Aaron Donald
