Countdown to the NFL Draft: 1.06 Falcons

I think the Falcons would love to get a Clowney, and are rumored as a team looking to trade up... but I think they could sit pat and take an Offensive Tackle like Jake Matthews.

However, it Clowney, Matthews and Greg Robinson are their top targets, I think they will be willing to move up to ensure getting one of them.

They are one of the few teams not looking QB at the top of the draft, so best case scenario for them is that 2 QBs are gone by their pick because then they will get one of their top targets for sure.

Since both Clowney and Mack are off the board I see the Falcons taking a player to keep Ryan upright. Matt Ryan was sacked a career high 44 times. He also threw a creed high in passes and I don't think that is going to change any time soon.

With the 6th pick I see the falcons taking Taylor Lewan.

I think the Falcons are one of the few people who want to trade up, have the means to do it, and have a history of doing it for the right player (a la Julio Jones).
I think they would love to move up and get Clowney or Mack, but as I have it mocked right now Jake Matthews actually goes to St. Louis so now BPA says Greg Robinson is available and will be the pick for the Falcons.

There were a few rumblings out there that Atlanta's target in a trade up is actually Robinson and not Clowney which I think would be surprising but not shocking since both are a need. I find it hard to believe that Matthews could go potentially 4 spots higher than Robinson and it would be an upset if he fell to 6. If Atlanta doesn't trade up, I think it's unlikely Robinson is still there and Mack wouldn't make it past Jacksonville at the latest so I'd go Taylor Lewan here. If Atlanta trades up to 1 or 2, I've got no clue who their guy is. Love the uncertainty this year!

I have pretty much all their targets gone at this point, so I'm also going Lewan here.
