Countdown to the NFL Draft: 1.04 Browns

Postby meineymoe » Sun May 04, 2014 9:43 pm

I think there are two schools of thought for the Browns.

One is that Sammy Watkins is the pick here, as they team him with Gordon for an elite WR duo.

The other is that the Browns go for their franchise QB.

I think if they want QB, they trade back... however, At picks 26 or 35, I think they have a chance of getting a decent QB option then.

This a spot that I can see another trade. Wouldn't be surprised if one of the teams looking for a WR jumped up for Watkins. I don't see the Browns taking a WR here since it a deep draft for that position and they have the picks to get one later. I also don't think a lot of teams are enamored by the QB's this early. My pick for the Browns is OT Matthews if they stay at this spot. The tandem of Thomas and Matthews along with Mack will give the Browns a good line for years to come.

I'm going Manziel here. I think their owner is a fool and will push the issue after watching the team getting burned by waiting on a QB the last time.

If it goes Clowney, Matthews, Mack, then this pick should be Watkins. However, apparently the Browns owner really loves Manziel and sometimes the infatuation with QB's takes over and I think that will happen here.

Jimmy Haslam seems like the type of meddlesome owner who will assert his own will on the team and if that happens, I bet Manziel is the pick here which would be a mistake IMO. Passing on a player like Watkins to take Manziel would be insane. I think they'd be better served taking an OT here if Watkins is already gone and build a studly line and then take Bridgewater later. I still think he's the best QB in the draft and would give Cleveland better value than taking a QB at 4. But, it's the Browns and they'll ultimately screw it up like they usually do.
