The New Catch Rule

Postby treble83 » Sun Jul 10, 2016 6:29 am

What's everyone's thoughts on the NFL's new catch rule? I'm a little concerned that it causes more confusion and that it will result in more bitter fans..
The rule now states that a receiver must establish himself as a runner rather than just make a football move. He also must have control of the ball and both feet in bounds.

How would he establish himself as a runner on all these catches where they're just falling

My understanding is that these "falling catches" where 2 foot touch the ground, but they don't establish a base (couldn't possible stand/turn and run from that position), are not going to count anymore. To me that takes away from some dramatic excitement in the game. Nothing better than when your receiver catches the ball in the air, in the end zone, and you have to watch the instant replay slo-mo to see if that second foot touched the ground before he went out..

"Bang-bang". This is just getting ridiculous.

Wow so if they don't make a running move following securing the football it's not a catch? Every sideline catch is not a catch anymore? Diving for a ball is not a catch? OBJs ridiculous catch his rookie year would not have been a catch...if they are taking away sideline catches and diving catches, the game is just going to get dumb.

Next NFL rule to be introduced: In order for a forward pass to be legal, a QB must first bounce the ball off a defender's head, catch and recover it cleanly, and take three steps. Then make a non-moving football move (like a Heisman pose), and he is then eligible to make a forward pass.

NFL is turning into the CFL season by season. I like your new rule though, makes it sound more like Gaelic Football (mix between Football/Rugby/Soccer).
10 team | 10 Keepers | .5 ppr | QB | RBx2 | WRx2 | RB/WR/TE | WR/TE | K | D/ST

QB: Burrow | Prescott
RB: Chubb | Dobbins | Sanders | Edwards-Helaire | Patterson | Edmonds | Henderson | Edwards | Benjamin
WR/TE: Moore | London | Kelce | Cooks | Lockett | Lazard | Parker | Jones
