Luck or Mayfield in SF

Postby ajpmn01 » Sat Apr 20, 2019 5:48 am

Interested in seeing consensus on this. Rankings have Mayfield ranked about 10 spots below Luck, while ADP has them right next to each other. I countered an offer of my Luck and Edelman for his Mayfield alone asking to add Christian Kirk and second round pick swap (my 2.10 for his 2.06) and received a response that Baker has way more market value than Luck.

League is 12 team SF. 28 roster spots. Start 10, 1QB, 2 RB, 3 WR, 1 TE, 2 flex, 1 SF. 1 PPR

Given Baker’s rookie performance, youth, and new plethora of weapons I think there will be a good number of people who prefer him to Luck. I think Luck is a more talented QB, but I’m unsure if that alone makes him a better fantasy QB or dynasty asset. I want to say I’d take Luck straight up to kind of ramp down what I think is some unfounded hype for Baker, but I’m unsure if I really believe Baker isn’t more valuable now. He’s certainly not Kirk Cousins away in value in a super flex

Ah that makes more sense. I think you’d have to find someone who preferred Luck significantly over Baker and who was pushing for a championship to trade away all those years of production. Doesn’t seem like a trade I see often in dynasty. Calculators would likely have it close and I could see from a proven production standpoint.

I'd rather have Luck. Higher floor and just as much upside. I know some will bring up age since Baker is 5 years younger, but age isn't really a big factor to me for QBs. They all play for a long time.

I watched all the Browns games a few weeks ago, and feel Baker is the real deal .. very optimistic for his career. I would roll with him especially if I could get Njoku also ...

Yeah, I'm super high on Mayfield and I think he's going to be great. However, now that it appears Luck is back and he has a history of consistently producing when healthy, I see him as at least slightly higher than Mayfield. I didn't think Mayfield had way more value than Luck with such a small sample size, but I was willing to part with Luck and still expect to compete with Mayfield as my second QB in SF.

I'm just interested in seeing how the community thinks about their comparative value.

Its close but i gotta go with Mayfield honestly. Mayfield is younger, and yes that doesnt really matter when talking QBs BUT id still be hesitant with luck about some of these past injuries, i could unfortunately see them rearing their ugly head again in 2-3 years just because luck is a bit older and Luck decline again. Also right now Mayfields situation on paper looks stacked. But again its close.

I can't believe how much love Baker is getting. Give me Luck 10 times out of 10.

Luck has proven he can be a stud year after year.

Mayfield did fine year 1, but year 2 is usually when we get to see what a player is really made of.

I don't like buying hype. I can absolutely understand why someone would prefer Mayfield, but I'm not there yet.

Gimme Luck, especially in a win-now situation which is what the OP was asking about.

Last year was a re-start for Luck and he had a good year. It will keep getting better each year if he stays healthy. I think they will still add a few more significant weapons for him before the season too. Baker has a few extra years of available production but I still choose Luck.

Luck. Mayfield will have some growing pains. Luck is entering his prime.

The hype on Mayfield is out of control. Reminds me of Bradford. Good luck to you guys. I would love Cleveland to actually be a good team, but I think the expectations on this team can only lead to a letdown.

I have a much higher opinion of Bradford than most people do...but I find this comparison somewhat baffling. Outside of both of them showing the ability to be hyper-efficient on deep passes and good at reading and reacting to on-field developments...there are just too many differences to seriously have a good comparison of these two.

Also (my chance to defend Bradford a bit again), we just don’t know what might have been if he were put behind a good OL and he stayed healthy. I don’t know if there has ever been another qb who has moved team to team to team and just kept moving from bottom dweller OL to bottom dweller OL.
