Alshon vs Picks

Postby kmbryant09 » Mon Apr 15, 2019 1:03 pm

I recently received a trade proposal:

I receive 1.09 and a 2020 2nd
I give Alshon

I'm a big supporter of Alshon, but think this might be a good return and give me a chance to inject some youth into my WR core with this deep incoming class.

On the other end, I'm back - to - back champs and have the strongest team on paper, and this move leaves me pretty thin behind my 3 studs.

Thoughts?

I've also been looking to move Kelce while trying to rebuild on the fly, would it be wise to counter the original offer and include my Kelce for his O.J. Howard and 2020 1st? He has a pretty bad roster (Alshon would be his WR #1 and he has little RB depth behind Kamara and DJ) so that pick projects to be top 3.

Thanks!

I've had Alshon in a league and I couldn't get anything for him, so this is a good return.

I personally wouldn't go after OJ because Arian's doesn't like using his TE, but then again he's never had a TE like OJ.

I would honestly wait it out on the TE part and just hold Kelce. You can probably get a better return during the season.

Picks for me here. Alshon is very up and down and often injured. I think Alshon is a solid player when he shows up but I would rather gamble on the picks. I see his value continuing to drop.

Since I've seen lots of people here recently say they wouldn't pay any 1st for Alshon, I think that's pretty good value based on his current perceived value.

I appreciate the votes and replies.

You guys still make this deal as a contender? I'd have a huge void at WR #4 / Flex players and I doubt the 1.09 selection will help fill that void in 2019.

Thanks!

I hesitate because your contending. My best teams have depth to cover injuries....you know this. Maybe you can trade 9 for someone productive? Unlikely they are better than alshon? You know your league best.

I own alshon in a rebuild and there is very little interest. Its a return if looking to sell, but not sure giving up that "depth piece" as a contender is really worth it. I liken this to fitz or edelman.

I think you'll get more out of the picks long term than the few times you'd need to start Jeffrey in 2019. I'd make this trade and hope someone like Brown makes a year 2 leap. Or the rookie you could draft at 1.09, probably play-able if needed.
"Marathon Square" - 16 team full PPR league with 24 player roster. Keep 16 per year indefinitely, draft 8. Start 1 QB, 2 RB, 3 WR, 1 TE, 1 K, 1 Team DST
QB: Jordan Love, Deshaun Watson
RB: Travis Etienne, Aaron Jones, Jamaal Williams, Kendre Miller, Jaleel McLaughlin, Sean Tucker, Deuce Vaughn
WR: A.J. Brown, Garrett Wilson, Tee Higgins, Calvin Ridley, Michael Wilson, Kendrick Bourne, Tutu Atwell, Allen Lazard, Isaiah Hodgins, Justin Shorter
TE: T.J. Hockenson, Cole Kmet, Kylen Granson
K: Didn't make the playoffs in 2023  , and don't usually hold one in the offseason
Team DST: Cowboys, Lions

Picks:
2024: All my picks except 3rd rounder

Disclaimer: My one and only Championship in this league was way back in 2011. Therefore, take my replies with the appropriate grain of salt.

Was able to talk the other owner into a 2021 2nd / 3rd pick swap, too much value to pass on:

I gave: Alshon, 2021 3rd
I received: 1.09, 2020 2nd, 2021 2nd

I've been a huge fan of Alshon and think he's a huge buy right now, but thanks to your advice in pulling off this trade - it should help inject some young talent into my roster!

I like it a lot. Jeffery was just depth for you, and you essentially got two 2nds for free.
