Barkley for Fournette+++

Postby MrFairNY » Tue Apr 09, 2019 5:51 pm

For Aviators (team 1 in sig), I have been in discussions to trade away Barkley for a package of players/picks. I already have the 1.03, 1.05, 1.06, 1.10, 1.11, and 1.12, so I am going to be reloading the roster in this upcoming draft. Normally I wouldn't deal a stud for pieces, but at what point is it worth it to make that kind of move? The trade is:

Give: Barkley

Get: Fournette, 2019 1.04, 2020 1st (early), 2020 1st (mid)

The benefits I see in doing this trade are the plethora of 1st round picks I would have between this year and next, along with Fournette to replace Barkley on my starting line-up. The obvious downside is that I'm not sure any of those picks will net me a return like Barkley, although I would imagine I'd have a good amount of depth.

Any feedback from the forum would be greatly appreciated.

If the 2020 class is all that its hyped up to be and you believe LF can bounce back then It's not the worst of trades. Besides Barkley/Ridley/WAtson you have absolutely no one on your roster, you're in a good position with so many picks this year but loading up on more picks isn't a terrible idea.

I think Fournette could be a top 10 RB, but not to the caliber of Barkley. With Barkley, Ridley, and Watson, mixed with the draft picks I currently own (which I acquired with the other players I had that still had value), the question is whether I need more picks for Barkley or if I should hold him. I'm sure I could always make a deal mid-season if I pass on something right now (since the only piece I'd really be missing out on is the 1.04).

It never feels good to get rid of the #1 dynasty asset in football but with 3 flex spots you need a good amount of depth and you have none. Is the early 2020 1st projected to be a top 1-3 pick? If so I doubt you will find a better offer for 1 player than 2 early 1sts, 1 mid 1st and a potential top 10 back (I'm not a LF fan personally). You could hammer the WR/TE position this year and turn around in 2020 and potentially acquire 3 top RB's. If the 2020 class is as solid as its being hyped up to be I can only imagine it will be on par with 2017 and 2018 classes that had tons of RB talent and depth.

Imagine if you were able to acquire 3 RB's in 2020 that were on par as the top 8 RB's from last rookie class, that'd give you 4 very solid RB options with a ton of youth and upside at WR and TE.

P.S. I'd highly recommend grabbing Hockenson and Fant at TE with the 1.11 and 1.12 if possible.

If you do this, because it is true you need a rebuild, I would look to shop Fournette for young player(s) and 2020 1sts. His value may go up, but any more missed games can only make it drop.

I would pass. Barkley is a known asset and looked unbelievable last year. Having all the 1st round picks is nice but is no guarantee that any of them will be good players.

the value is probably on the fournette side, but I don't think i could sell Barkley for picks and fournette

Barkley easily. You already won the lottery, why sell your jackpot for more lottery tickets? You already have plenty of picks. You need to keep STUDs when you get them otherwise you'll be rebuilding forever.

The value is definitely fair, but I'd pass mostly because I'm not a big Fournette guy. If you can swap him with someone better, I'd make the deal.

I agree with others, that the offer isn't bad in terms of value. However, the huge number of first round picks that you already own tends to confuse matters some. You may try a simple pen & paper exercise and see how your team could look at this time next year.

Use your current 1st rounders and add some 2019 rookies to your roster. Then cross off 1/2 of them as busts and assume the other 1/2 are good players. Now where does your roster (with Barkley) stand going into 2020?

I would keep Barkley personally, he's the #1 dynasty asset right now. Fournette is a question mark but could bounce back. I agree with what someone said earlier, if it was a different back besides Fournette I would consider/look at it a little harder.
