Are we in a sell high situation with Ebron?
Re: Are we in a sell high situation with Ebron?
He's only 25 and it's not that uncommon for a TE to breakout around that age. All the current hype around Kittle, but people don't always realize that he's already 25 as well. I've never been the biggest Ebron fan, but I don't see why he can't continue to produce like he did this year or even continue to improve.

Re: Are we in a sell high situation with Ebron?
If I didn't have Kittle, I would be holding him. In theory I think "selling high" is the right move for him after a top 5 finish but, as others have pointed out, it's extremely difficult to find someone willing to pay up. I'm having trouble and I'm in a league filled with Colts fans.

Re: Are we in a sell high situation with Ebron?
Even with the great fantasy numbers this year, I think his value can only go up in the off-season because many still see the DET Ebron (not saying without justification, just saying) Coach speak, camp hype, and time will allow his value to continue to grow before next season.

Thats because like Detroit fans, Colts fans have seen him play. They are not blinded by the stats that dont show up in fantasy points like drops, stupid penalties, his attitude, his being in the wrong place at the wrong time.theWilkman wrote: ↑Wed Jan 23, 2019 2:18 pm If I didn't have Kittle, I would be holding him. Yet oddly enough Eric Ebron was voted into the Pro Bowl this year.
Currently, players are voted into the Pro Bowl by the coaches, the players themselves, and the fans. Each group's ballots count for one third of the votes. The fans vote online at the NFL's official website. There are also replacements that go to the game should any selected player be unable to play due to injuries.

And btw penalties are a stat that can be tracked

Here you'll see in 2018 Ebron vs. other TEs in penalties

Dude was a touchdown monster. He definitely had a pro bowl season imo. Without him, colts dont finish anywhere near where they did.ArrylT wrote: ↑Wed Jan 23, 2019 9:41 pm Yet oddly enough Eric Ebron was voted into the Pro Bowl this year.

Re: Are we in a sell high situation with Ebron?
I will say in defence of him making the pro bowl who else do you put in this year from the AFC, other than kelce OFC, Gronk was hurt and ineffective much of the year, HH hurt all year, Njoku never really broke out and was meh from a stats standpoint, the only option other than him was Cook, TE in the AFC was trash all year well the entire NFL but especially the AFC.zarathustra wrote: ↑Thu Jan 24, 2019 10:44 pmDude was a touchdown monster. Saying that if you can get top 5-8 TE value I'd be willing to sell but if all I'm getting is a second I'd rather hold and hope the contract year coming up makes him try again.

Touchdown regression? Healthy Doyle next year? I think so

Re: Are we in a sell high situation with Ebron?
I think he and Doyle are intended to have different roles. Doyle is the better blocker and the more reliable short to intermediate guy. Ebron is a big play and red zone threat. If the Colts go WR early, or if Cain emerges, then the targets available to the TEs may shrink. In this case, then I agree that Doyle is a concern. Ballard described Ebron as effectively the Colts WR2 at the end of the year though and sounded to me like a GM who wants to continue prioritising talent or positional fit in the draft. The Colts know that they are weak at the skill positions bar Hilton, but I think they intend to focus on the D-line and the secondary in a draft dripping with talent at those spots. I see Ebron as a guy worth buying/holding as long as you accept that he will be boom bust and heavily dependent upon TDs and big plays.

Re: Are we in a sell high situation with Ebron?
For sure, but the fact Ebron plays such a small percentage of snaps increases the likelihood of regression. Like you said, he's heavily dependant on TD's, and any dip in those won't be made up for by a rise in catches, the way they currently run that offense.Factory of Sadness wrote: ↑Sat Jan 26, 2019 12:44 am I think he and Doyle are intended to have different roles. Re: Are we in a sell high situation with Ebron?
I agree. Where I think we may see things a little differently is on the business of TD regression. I am very much buying the TDs I think he'll score, as I agree that he won't see a great many targets. The Colts love to target the TE in the red zone - and have done throughout Luck's time there. Ebron is their number one guy in the passing game down there and they actively scheme for him to be so. It is risky to bet on TDs, but as that is his role and I expect the Colts to continue to use him in this way, I'm happy to take that risk. I wouldn't, but beyond three guys, the whole position is a turd bowl.
