Damien Williams - convince me

This is the place for team advice - should I make this trade, should I draft that player, etc.

Damien Williams - convince me

Postby Prison_Mike » Tue Jan 15, 2019 8:01 pm

HELP

We did our startup last week and I took Damien Williams in the 8th round.

I can’t decide what to do with him.

I feel like if I’m going to sell - the window is now, while he’s playing well. If he plays poorly this week, people will write him off and he’ll have little value

But I also think he’s looked fantastic since getting the nod. And I want to think he’ll keep the starting role (even if it’s just for 2019)

Team is in signature, I think I could afford to lose him even if he were the starter. I would just regret it if he gets an RB1 workload next year

NOTE: I would only sell if I could get a 1st out of him. I’d rather have his upside than a 2nd or later

So....convince me one way or the other.

Go

Sell for a 2020 1st if you can get it. Williams is unlikely to have a long term starting role. I would not be surprised if KC added a back in the draft. If you could snag a 2020 1st, you might be getting a long term stud.

Trying to get a 2020 1st for him is a great way to go. That class appears to be pretty loaded and I see Williams as a fill guy on any NFL team

I would not take him in the 8th round of a dynasty startup draft. Do you have a time machine where you can go back in time?

No one, and I mean, no one, is giving you a 2020 1st for Damien Williams. Certainly not now.

It's KC.... any RB would look good in that offense.

lol there weren't a lot of quality players on the board at the time anyway - certainly none with his upside if he were to get the nod
Edleman & Hines were the 2 of the players I remember choosing between at that time.
(I had 2 picks in the 8th, I took DW & Pettis)

I'm pretty happy with how my startup draft turned out despite reaching for him
But if that's true (no one will give me a 1st), I'll gladly hold & hope

I don't know much about Williams except that he has been lighting it up. Why are people so convinced he can't keep the job???

BTW, I would definitely hold unless I got a 1st too. He has already flashed NFL value/production. He's in a GREAT offense. Heck of a lottery ticket..

If you got him in the 8th round in a 12 team league there probably wasn't much meat on the bone by that time anyways and not to mention everyone else passed him up until you took him so there is a 0% chance you get any value for him because if you could then someone else would've drafted him before you. Just keep him and pray he keeps playing lights out. If they win the super bowl and he dominates then put some feelers out there for a 2020 1st like others hav esuggest, if not just hold.

I love when people say any rb would do well there...I say well there isn't just any rb there he is there and he is making people take notice. I dont see why they would not give him a chance to keep the job. I'm sure they will bring in competition but if I were the coach and they do well with him, its his job to lose. I could be a little biased, but it is all true.

Lol. Williams couldn’t beat out Spencer Ware and was a third stringer until about five minutes ago. He’s had a couple of good games playing on the #1 offense in the league. Yeah, I’m gonna need to see a little more than that from him. If you are competing for a super bowl, you can’t feel great about Williams being your starting RB.

That’s just it... as you said, they will bring in competition. And there is a very solid chance that the competition beats out Williams. He is a “jag” imo.

Williams is a textbook “sell” right now. I get that it would be hard for some owners to do that, because they are “star struck” thinking they might have a gem... gl with that. Smart owners capitalize on these types of situations, IF they can find the fish that will bite.

Would I sell Williams for a late 2nd or worse? No, I’d keep him at that price. But if an owner can get somebody to move a 2019 first or future first, I’d sell in a heartbeat. I’d probably even dump him for a high second.
