Missed the playoffs, young team, IDP, what to do

This is the place for team advice - should I make this trade, should I draft that player, etc.

Missed the playoffs, young team, IDP, what to do

Postby Oddball456 » Fri Dec 07, 2018 12:25 pm

10 team PPR + Return yards, Full IDP (tackle heavy). Start QB, 2 RB, 3 WR, 1 TE, 1 Flex (RB/WR/TE), K, 2 DL, 3 LB, 2DB, 1 Def Flex.

Current roster (47 man roster +5 IR spots, so bench warmers, guys like Doctson and lower, I am not going to list)

Wilson, Brandy, Josh Allen
Mixon, Sony Michele, Cohen, Lidsey, Carson
Diggs, A Cooper, Gollady, T Lockett, Watkins, Josh Gordon, A. Miller, Coutee
Njoku, Burton, Hunter Henry
Hunter, Clowney, Trey Flowers
Leonard, Schobert, Fred Warner, T Edmunds, J Collins, Jaylon Smith
John Johnson, A Philips

I have the 1.04, and all the rest of my pick next year except the 4th round. Barely missed the playoffs but here we are. As you can see my team has a bunch of low end 1s and a bunch of 2s, but really no game breaking studs. Do I need to try to consolidate some talent for next year or with most of my team being young could next year I bounce up without needing to do too much. For example, if Cooper had been a Cowboy all year I would have been in the playoffs pretty easy. Anyone that is clearly a sell at any price besides Brady? I do plan to try to unload Watkins and Josh Gordon if I can get anything of decent value back.

Thanks!

In a ten team league, your team is not very good. You have no true elite players. You will never compete without any studs. I would look to package some players together to go out and get some. What's the point of barely making the playoffs? The point is to win championships. No way you do that by holding serve.

i highly disagree with the above and think you have many high end players.

i wouldnt tinker a bunch thinking that skill was the issue, health and team held you back. you cant control the injuries you sustained and cant control gordon and cooper being in a bad home first few weeks. wilson also started slow and is now dynamite once again. njoku and burton were meh and HH was hurt, all three make a great unit going forward imo.

some high end D in there too.

you are fine, better luck next season

You have some good players. I would try to build around Mixon, Michele, and Njoku. I'd say anything else is on the table at the right price. Yes you will have to become REALLY thin in the short term, but packaging some of the middle tier guys to get a young stud (Juju, Chubb, Kamara) is worth the price.

So, after this year I ended up 5th overall in points but the second worst record (5-8), so I have the 1.02 pick in 2020. I did package a bunch of guys together and got Juju before the start of the season, but that trade was 1 trade too many. I traded Golladay straight up for Godwin, then traded Godwin, Sony, Hunter Henry, and Jaylon Smith for Juju. Overall my team now is:

Wilson, Josh Allen
Mixon, Miles Sanders, Lidsey, Cohen, Jamaal Williams
Diggs, A Cooper, Juju, T Lockett, Watkins, N Harry, A. Miller, JJAW, Allen Lazard, Preston Williams
Njoku, Dallas Goedert, G. Everett, Higbee, Ian Thomas
Hunter, N Bosa, Chris Jones, Maxx Crosby
Leonard, Fred Warner, T Edmunds, Jayon Brown, J Collins
Couple DBs

Have the second pick each round next year plus an extra 2nd and 4th. If I win the next 2 weeks I get a bonus pick at 11th overall. Mixon and Juju having down (to put it nicely) years and Njoku getting hurt set me back in 2019, but I feel good about my team moving into 2020. Likely looking to take a RB with the 1.02, but the draft is a long ways off.

The pick will be huge for you. I like getting JuJu heading into next year and hopefully he rebounds. Build around your young assets. If Mixon and JuJu bounce back and Cooper stays the course, you are heading in the right direction. Stay patient and make smart deals if they come along.
