A lot to give up. If this was a one year and done, yes. Dynasty - no. Question is can DJ get to elite performance again. If Cardinals go get Greg Little in the draft and a couple others to shore up the line and give Rosen time to pass then that will open up some running lanes. If not then DJ's talent will continue to be wasted. If DJ is wasted then I would rather of MT. Watkins is okay. Cory Davis is good, but not in a passing system, but will have good games. Other question to ask about perceived value is: How much longer for Brees. He is special and adds value to MT. Personally I don't do it as top RB are harder to find than WR. I will say that you are good at RB for the longterm with Kamara, CMC, Sony, and Guice. The two WR's are backups for you. So maybe you do it. I wouldn't with my team. Just me though.

I actually don't mind it. I recently bought MT for a similar price. Gave Watkins, Davis, Guice and a 1st (will be late and a devy depleted rookie draft). You have the RB depth to handle the loss of DJ and MT immediately slides into your starting lineup. Probably an overpay but one that could pay huge dividends, which was my thought for my trade.

As much as I wanna keep the faith with C Davis, this is essentially a RB1 on a dumpster fire team and a couple WR3/4s for a top 10 fantasy asset

What wins it all.....elite players. DJ was two years ago on a different team. Now he is struggling and needs a lot of help around him to get back to a high level. MT is playing at a high level with a top offense who has a top qb, o-line and running game. I’m gong for it.

Okay, so go find an elite player for DJ + Corey or try to get Gurley for this cost (which would have the added benefit of not leaving OP with 0 RB depth while Sony is out). Shouldn't need to also add Watkins for Thomas. Also I worry that people overreacted a tad to Thomas's first 3 weeks this season.

I'd at a minimum inquire to see if I could get Gurley, Kamara, Barkley or Gordon for that price or less (if nothing else because it makes more sense for OP's roster).
