Acquire Tyler Boyd PPR for Late 2019 1st?

This is the place for team advice - should I make this trade, should I draft that player, etc.

Acquire Tyler Boyd PPR for Late 2019 1st?

Postby mullmania » Thu Oct 11, 2018 12:27 pm

Get Tyler Boyd

Give 2019 1st Late

I'll need to cut running back probably like Jalen Richard or Rod Smith to make room but I think I should make the move.

Currently 5-0 thanks to Brees-Kamara and Green-Ertz but don't want to just rely on a nice start

Brees, Wilson
Kamara, Michel, Corey Clement, Gio Bernard, Alf Morris, Jalen Richard, Rod Smith, Burkhead IR
AJ Green, Landry, Sterling Shepard, Keelan Cole, Chris Godwin, Kenny Stills, P Rich
Ertz-Olsen

I got it done! Think he's going into the lineup this week over Godwin-Kole

Nice insurance on AJ Green too. Lets go!

Think it also gives me an opportunity to shop a guy like Godwin for an RB or something if need be.

It's a decent move for you with where you're at. You need some shoring up at WR and Boyd helps + he's insurance for AJG. Though I don't think AJG is going anywhere anytime soon and he should age fairly well.

I very well could change my tune by the end of the season, but a 1st is too rich for my blood for a guy who was on waivers in a lot of leagues five games ago.
1: 12 team, .5PPR, 1 QB, 2 RB, 2 WR, 1 TE, 2 W/R/T
QB: Dak, Mayfield // RB: Mixon, Taylor, Akers, Gibson, McKinnon, Peterson, McFarland, Penny, Gio, Dallas, D. Williams // WR: Evans, Sutton, Chark, McLaurin, Boyd, Diontae, J. Jefferson, M. Williams, Crowder, Washington // TE: Goedert, OJH, Cox, Akins, Dissly

2: 12 team PPR, 6pt all TDs, 1 QB, 2 RB, 2 WR, 1 TE, 1 W/R/T
QB: Watson, Minshew // RB: Saquon, Zeke, Cook, Drake, Mostert, McKinnon, Mattison, Pollard, Vaughn, Boston Scott, Ito // WR: Hopkins, Adams, Evans, Boyd, Diontae, Kirk, Lazard // TE: Hurst, Graham, Akins

3: 12 team SF, .5PPR, 6pt all TDs, 1 QB, 2 RB, 2 WR, 1 TE, 2 W/R/T, 1 Q/W/R/T
QB: Wilson, Herbert, Carr, Lock, Smith, Stidham, Hoyer, Luck // RB: Cook, Chubb, Ekeler, Drake, Gibson, DJ, McKinnon, White, Hines, Mike Davis, JJ Taylor, Booker // WR: Moore, Lockett, ARob, Thielen, Reagor, Van Jefferson, Byrd // TE: Andrews, Henry

I totally understand this. But his usage has gone through the roof from last year. I'm usually the slow adopter to player's changing values and it's bitten me in the bleep before. I think Boyd is worth a late 1st.

^ It's also the value of a bird in hand is worth 2 in the bush for me.

How often do teams spend a late 1st on a DJ Moore type WR only to basically have him redshirt his first couple of years and then MAYBE start giving consistent production later.

1st round picks are littered with Doctson, Parker, Treadwell types. Give me a player with some value today.

Separate topic but I truly feel one of the most determining aspects in separating the truly great players from the average is their ability to react to trends before the consensus reaches the same conclusion.

Whether that's picking up a player from waivers who only had one breakout game but you know is good from scouting his college tape before it becomes consistent or cutting bait on that 1st round pick who you saw on the field and wow he sucks but still holds that 1st round value.

Funny you mention Doctson. Apparently him and a second rounder was enough for one owner in our league to cough up Howard...

This. I picked Walton up because I think he is going to be a David Johnson type when he gets the opportunity. Everyone thinks I am insane but we shall see...

He really should not have been dropped in most leagues ever. He was a 2nd round NFL pick, late first round rookie pick in 2016 and had a good rookie season. People were overreacting to a sophomore campaign that was largely undermined by injuries (and that Boyd finished strong). I can't imagine someone who has Boyd selling for less than a late first at this point.
