Give it to me straight Doc: Recovering from disaster in 16-Team Superflex Startup?

This is the place for team advice - should I make this trade, should I draft that player, etc.

Give it to me straight Doc: Recovering from disaster in 16-Team Superflex Startup?

Postby HSCTiger » Wed Sep 05, 2018 6:30 pm

Somehow my first dynasty league ever ended up being a 16-team Superflex League. I misjudged how quickly two runs at QB were going to hit and wound up completely Shanghai-ed at QB. We've got waivers running tomorrow at noon and free agency until Sunday at 1PM but as you can imagine there's little out there on the wire. I'll include some waiver options at the end. I was planning to go shopping for QBs now via trade, but maybe someone has a better idea or a realistic package I could put together for a 2nd starting QB.

Please let me have it with your assessment of the roster and if anyone has any suggestions on whether and how I could bounceback, that would be greatly appreciated.

Starting Lineups are: QB, RB, RB, WR, WR, TE, SFLEX, FLEX, FLEX, FLEX. Scoring is 4pt passing TDs, 1PPR, and .25 points per rushing carry.

The Roster:

QB (3): Derek Carr, Cody Kessler, Chad Kelly

RB (8): Ezekiel Elliott, Tevin Coleman, Aaron Jones, C.J. Anderson, Elijah McGuire [IR] Mark Walton, Detrez Newsome, Deangelo Henderson

WR (11): Keenan Allen, Stefon Diggs, Sterling Shepard, Devante Parker, D.J. Moore, Antonio Callaway, Willie Snead, Curtis Samuel, Jakeem Grant, David Moore, Jordan Lasley

TE (3): Hunter Henry [IR], Eric Ebron, Antonio Gates

With taxi squad and unlimited IR spots, I could add at least 6 players to my roster. Here are some current WW options: LaFell, Glennon, Etling, Mike White, T. Boyle, McGloin, C. Rush, Luke Falk, Kyle Sloter, et al at QB and some players on IR like Vereen and Noah Brown, etc.

Can I ever recover? How?

This is exactly why experienced owners in superflex and 2QB leagues will always correctly advocate to get your QBs in the first 2-3 rounds. It is the most important position and you cannot use the same strategy from other formats. Bottom line is you're going to struggle for a long time until you fix your QB situation.

Your QBs are in trouble, but I like the rest of the team. If you can get another starting QB, I think you can be competitive for a 16 team league.

It'd b neat to see the draft. At least it's superflex, not 2 qb and u won't have to take a zero

drop one of those RBs at the end of your roster and pick up Sloter....QBs certainly have more value than Detrez Newsome (who is he), Deangelo Henderson
team 1 -start QB RB 2WR TE 2RB/WR 1WR/TE
qbs=5pt tds wr/te=1 ppr rbs=.5ppr all get .25ppc

Ekeler, Hunt, Carson/Penny, DForeman, Mitchell, CPat, Kyren, Ford, KHarris
Cooper, sutton, Chase, Shepard, Atwell, Schwartz, Wan'Dale, Austin III
Gesicki, Engram, Hooper, Woods
team 2 -start QB 2RB 3WR TE 2Flex K D
Cousins, Stafford
DH JT, Ekeler, Kylin Hill, Herbert, KHarris, Chandler
Hopkins, Diggs, Adams, Godwin, McLaurin, Callaway, DPJ, Robby Anderson, Schwartz, Pierce, Wan'Dale, Doubs
Kelce, Andrews, Jacob Harris

Really what is the point of picking up Kyle Slater??? I’d rather drop all backup qbs who have no future and add a wr / rb and hope to catch lightening in a bottle. I think your team is decent, your just lacking another qb. I’d maybe on accident, hint hint, make some poor line up selections, and hope to land a top pick to get a top young qb.

i wouldn't drop anyone for Slater, i don't know who he is...

seriously though, i like what i see from Sloter....could he be the next Jimmy GQ? probably not, but it could happen...i think that has more of a chance of happening than Detrez Newsome ever starting for an NFL team...i will take Sloter over him in a superflex league every time

Deliberate tanking is a hot topic around here. I would not do this.

I honestly do not think your team is half bad. I can see 2 options for fixing.

1) shop some of your lower end RB for lower end QB, but serviceable, such as Dalton, Manning, Keenun, Bortles. Bortles is extremely under rated in this format due to PPC. I am also in a 16 team SF with .2 PPC and he finished last year as QB9 overall. Keenum is a good option as you have Chad Kelly, so you're covered either way.

2) Go bigger and shop HH or Diggs for a more valuable qb solidifying yourself for years to come

In a league like this, you have to spend value to get value.
