Gore vs Garcon

Postby Seventy5 » Wed Aug 15, 2018 7:56 am

12 team 1 PPR start 2RB/2WR/1Flex.

Contending team, both would be useful depth at their positions.

Who would you prefer at this point? A Frank Gore closing out his career for his hometown team, or Garcon as what may be the teams WR2 (Goodwin is making things interesting in SF)

Probably Garcon, but I'm lower on Gore (mostly because of my thoughts on Ballage). I don't think either will break your starting lineup though

Don't think either have much value. Go with whichever position you feel like you have more need.

I feel Garcon has a decent floor and ceiling in SF with Jimmy.

I'd much rather have Garcon.

I feel like people are writing off Garcon and I'm not really sure why. He's definitely not a building-block for a dynasty squad, but people seem to be really low on his 2018 outlook. A few things to consider:
  • He was signed to a 5-year / $47m contract just last season - by this coaching staff & front office.
  • He was on pace for 80 catches / 1,000 yards last season with a laughably bad QB play (C.J. Beathard & Brian Hoyer)
  • His biggest issue was that he didn't score a TD last year - but that entire offense struggled to score
  • The team obviously signed Jimmy G. to a massive extension, and I fully expect this offense to be at least league-average, if not a top10 unit
Even if M. Goodwin continues his improved play, I think there's enough targets, yards, and TDs to go around to make Garcon a sneaky WR #3 / 4 this year. And if the off-season hype train for Goodwin turns out to be wrong and Garcon remains the #1 target, he could return solid WR #2 value in 2018.
10-team/.5 PPR/5 Pts per Passing TD. Start 1QB, 2RB, 3WR, 1TE, 2FLEX (rb/wr/te)

WR: G. Wilson, B. Aiyuk, J. Waddle, T. Higgins,, Z. Flowers, Di. Johnson, K. Toney, A. Iosivas
TE: K. Pitts, E. Engram, C. Okonkwo, G. Dulcich

Even though we seem to be in the minority, these are my sentiments 100%.

I think a 70-900-5 season for Garcon, maybe a little less, maybe a little more, is what I'm predicting. Shanahan loves him and has said he still looks every bit the same as he did last year.

If that's entirely true, Garcon isn't going to face elite shadow corners and double coverage anymore, that'll be on Goodwin. If Jimmy is as good as advertised, there's going to be sustained drives and plenty of fantasy points to go around.
