My first superflex start up about to begin (Updates as picks come)

This is the place for team advice - should I make this trade, should I draft that player, etc.

asande wrote: Tue Aug 14, 2018 11:43 am i know it's not a popular opinion on here but i like to wait on qb even in SF. Get one in the first five rounds and pick up value later in someone like keenum/bortles/dalton/flacco/tyrod/smith. That way you gain an edge on WR/RB/TE as qb is so deep these years.
That was my plan not too long ago in a recent SF startup but when Rodgers was staring at me in the face in round 3 i jumped on it.

For the OP, take best player available and when deciding between players when on the clock especially with QB ask yourself would you trsde this QB for this non QB player? If not take the QB.
Aaron Rodgers fell all the way to the 3rd round in a SF? wow lol
Ya and this is the exact reason i tell people not to go qb round 1, gotta wait and see if the rest of the league knows what they are doing. going qb early kills your team if everyone else waits imo

Obviously there's some risk. I'd go with whichever qb u value most. For me it'd b cam, luck and Stafford. Honestly, I'd take all the QBs and totally short the market. Then I'd hold them for ransom.

I’m worried everyone drafts Mahomes and mayfield and think they own the best players ever and not trade. And then all 3 non qb flex players and rbs are beyond terrible

I’d like to go Cam, Luck and Penny but not sure if that’s good. I just don’t know that cooks will get the volume. Still a lot of questions around Arob and Corey Davis, idk.
Cam is a no brainer here, he shouldve gone mid-late 2nd. After him I'm huge on Cooks so I'd go him and then Arob, Stafford or Davis. I would never go Luck over Stafford in SF, I can see the case in 1qb but not SF

Why not Luck over Stafford? I don’t understand.
stafford has an amazingly underrated floor which matters a ton IMO in SF which combined with being roughly the same age as Luck makes me view him quite a bit higher. I know I can trust stafford as a low end QB1 for the foreseeable future, Luck I just don't know.

I'd go for Luck, Jimmy G and then try to trade down and go for JuJu or Hilton.

what happened to pick 3.12?

you said you have 1.12...then said you have Wilson and Julio...so you must have made a trade and acquired an extra 3rd?
what is the status...i would have waited for QB and i am lower on Cam than most, but love Luck in that spot...Superflex are the toughest to draft, every draft is different...good luck, a good challenge for sure...

Postby SteveMaddensShoes » Thu Aug 16, 2018 10:50 pm

Good catch on the mistake Vixen. I drafted Kareem Hunt at the 2.01 and the 2.02 took Julio and lamented how he wished he had Hunt. So I traded him Hunt for Julio and swapped the 5.12 for the 4.02 picks. Did not pick up an extra pick.

When I went into the draft, I was trying to focus on safe early round picks. This is only the 2nd startup I've ever done. My first startup I drafted about 3-4 years ago and I took C. Patterson and Percy Harvin in the 2nd and 3rd rounds. That wasn't a league winning move as you can imagine.

I admit, I did get caught up in the RB rush this draft and felt like I needed to grab a stud with upside and Hunt seemed like the obvious choice. I immediately regretted it, not because I'm overly concerned with Hunt, but more that there is less of a track record and that the pick had a higher chance of busting than say, Aaron Rodgers. There are always RBs who tend to bust after one year that we don't see coming(Jeremy Hill, Thomas Rawls, etc) So when I got the chance to move up nearly 2 rounds by swapping for Julio I decided to take the trade. I do have concerns with the longevity of Julio but not his track record. I won't blow the pick, aside from age or injury.

As far as Cam goes, I do think he has a slightly shorter shelf life than other QBs. I would have prefered Watson. But his rushing points in this format seemed to give him extra value.

If anyone has any strategy from here forward they would like to share, or critiques of what I've done, feel free to chime in.

In 1qb leagues a QB's upside is his most important asset, and his long-term floor is mostly irrelevant since you can always find starter level QBs for cheap. In SF where you can't find them for cheap and you need two, long-term floor becomes very very important and with Luck's shoulder issues, Stafford has a much better long-term floor.

Luck vs. Stafford is obviously up to each individual person, but that's why SF changes things a bit between the two.
