Final Roster Spot: Shepard or Godwin?

Postby Camperhead » Mon Aug 13, 2018 11:21 pm

Facing a Wednesday cut deadline for the roster below. I'm down to deciding between Shepard and Godwin for the final spot. I see similar ceilings, but the Godwin buzz has me hesitant to toss him back into the pool. Sometimes I'll resort to draft stock to make the call (Shepard was our first-round pick in 2016, Godwin a third-rounder last year). FWIW, you'd have to call us contenders. Thanks in advance.

Unless you’re specifically talking about this season only, Godwin’s ceiling is MUCH higher than Shepard’s.

That said, there are several names on that roster I’d cut before Shepard or Godwin. Is Eddie Lacy even on a team? Regardless of whether it’s Trent or Taywan, I’d cut Taylor before either of them as well. And superflex be damned, neither Kizer nor Kelly should should take up a roster spot over Godwin or Shepard. To say nothing of the fact that you have three D/STs. Unless your sig is just totally out-of-date and inaccurate, there’s no reason you should cut either of those guys.
Both are 12-team 1QB PPR dynasties

I would keep Godwin over Shepard. However you shouldn't be "cutting" either. There has to be a trade out there for one of them.

My thoughts exatly. The only thing I would add is that I would also cut Dez over either one.

Definitely go Godwin here. Far more upside and could potentially outpace Shepard this year. I think he takes over Jackson's spot by midseason.

I prefer Godwin, but their value should probably be close. Is trading one not an option?

I didn't see any point in over-complicating the question by diving into the intricate complexities of our keeper rules, but, outside of Ks and Ds, we essentially get to keep 13 players. There are rules on how those 13 spots must be allotted, but knowing them doesn't change the question. The 12 I've decided on so far as keepers are:

QB - Wilson, Dalton, Mahomes
RB - Bell, Johnson, Kamara, Fournette, Miller
WR - Hopkins, Green, Cooks, Gordon

One spot left. Shepard or Godwin?

Edited because I'm a punctuation nerd.

Very similar situations. Eerily similar.

Both play alongside young, stud #1s.
Both have stud young TEs.

Two things tip the scale to Godwin:
Bucs led the NFL in passing yards last season and did NOT just draft Saquon.
Winston will most likely be around a lot longer than Eli.

thus, Godwin.

I appreciate the input. Sure, ideally I wouldn't have to resort to cutting either, and I won't drag everyone through the sorry details of how trade-averse this league tends to be. Whoever I cut will be high on my list when we reload back to 25 through the draft in about two weeks. Thanks, everyone.
