Guice the clear 1.2?

This is the place for team advice - should I make this trade, should I draft that player, etc.

Guice the clear 1.2?

Postby chee13 » Thu Aug 02, 2018 6:48 am

With all this Chris Thompson news about his injury does this help solidify Guice as the clear 1.2? I've seen a lot of posts of Penny, but that seems to be a situation to stay away from. What are your thoughts?

I think the Penny situation is being extremely overblown. I had Guice as 1.03 predraft and Penny 1.04 predraft and they flipflopped after the draft. Now I think its back to how it was predraft.

Penny owners DO NOT PANIC.

Guice Owners be happy!

Pre NFL draft Guice was my 1.02 and during all this time he has cemented himself there.

There's going to be people who argue that Penny is the 1.02. I'm not one of them. It's still Guice, and then Chubb at 1.03. Always has been for me.

A part-time player having an improbably impressive season suffers a serious injury in November of 2017. In the summer of 2018, he is participating in full-team drills but admits that he won't be fully recovered (no shock!) until November of 2018.

Because of that, you're adjusting/solidifying your dynasty RB draft board?

I know that we live in a world over-saturated with information and that we seek any -- any! -- edge that we can get. But, let's also maintain perspective here. Guice's draft stock shouldn't be affected by whether or not Chris Thompson's leg is 100% healed now or in a couple of months.

Penny for me. Better back than Guice IMO. I wouldn't fault people for taking Guice, he's my 1.04, and in the same tier, so it's preference.

Yup. Nothing's changed for me either. He's been the 1.02 for over a year now.

Eh, I generally agree with this sentiment but there are plenty of cases to not dismiss it so easily. For people that have Penny at 1.02 over Guice, a lot of it may have to do with Penny's perceived edge in the receiving game. Many people tend to think that Guice can put up ok receiving numbers, but his upside is capped a little bit there, especially because of the presence of one of the best pass-catching backs in the league in Chris Thompson.

If Thompson is slow to recover or less available, that opens up a big opportunity to Guice to prove (both to fantasy owners and the Redskins coaching staff) that he can be a capable weapon in the passing game moving forward. For people that have Guice and Penny neck-and-neck, and especially for those that are looking for immediate production from their highly-drafted RBs, that can be enough to make them lean towards Guice with more confidence.

Penny is the easy choice. Michel is the "I'm smarter than everybody else" choice. Guice is the right choice.

It’s Penny for me. Talent wise, I agree Guice is definitely worthy of the 1.02. It just concerns me that so many teams that needed a RB, passed on him, some did twice. Maybe those “character concerns” never amount to anything but there was something there, supposedly some off the field stuff at LSU, I read in one report and then the whole pre-draft interview problems. He’s young though and again, maybe it never amounts to anything but it concerns me. I still think Penny will be the #2 rookie RB in PPR scoring behind Barkley when this upcoming season is over and he looks to have a bright future. I don’t buy into the Carson talk, of course he will be involved, especially early in the season but other than what was already expected, nothing has changed my mind on Penny.

Chubb is my RB2 this year and would have taken him pre draft, but because of his landing spot, the comminity has soured in him so you can get later.

So I’d take Guice at 1.02 and try to get in mid round and grab Chubb

I can’t agree though it’s clear he is 1.02, there seems to be a lot of varying opinions this year. Michel and Penny are backs ive seen go 1.02
