Penny owners, how worried should we be?

This is the place for team advice - should I make this trade, should I draft that player, etc.

Penny owners, how worried should we be?

Sounds like it maybe the Carson show in Seattle.

How worried should we (penny owners) be, using an early rookie draft pick?

Thoughts, thanks.

It's all camp speak until at least first cuts; with Carroll it's until game 2 of regular season. His camp speak is 2nd only to Miami. Plus, it's dynasty so shouldn't ever count on the rookies.

i would be more worried if they didn't spend a 1st round pick on him...coach trying to motivate...i usually try to keep expectations low in the rookie year of any player..

Too much passing in the Seattle offense for any RB to be productive...let alone 3 of them. I personally would stay away from Seattle RBs.

Decently worried. Seattle hasn't had an RB of note hold down the job longterm since Lynch nor have they really had the offensive line.

They also seem to whiff on offensive talent draft picks frequently.

Carrol has already demonstrates that he doesn't care about the investment in a player, he just cares about how good the are. Flynn got a huge contract and he was ousted by a rookie QB (Wilson). I see Carson being an early down back and Prosise being the third down back. Penny will have to wait for an injury or ineffectiveness

Inaccurate. Carrol much prefers to run to set up the pass. The skewed passing number of 2017 were due to the fact that the best RB in the backfield after Carson went down was Mike Davis. He's not special, and the line couldn't execute Cable's run blocking scheme. Not to mention, all the defensive injuries and game scripts (deficits) dictated the team pass more to compensate. The run/pass ratio will favor the running game in 2018 and their desire to do so is part of the reason Seattle drafted Penny. And sadly, I say this as someone relying on Wilson as my starting QB. Expect more, not less running. The defense is rebuilding, and they want that unit on the field as little as possible. They will look to control the clock and shorten the game.

Keep in mind, the reason Wilson had a chance to start in the first place is Flynn's elbow was shot, and he did virtually nothing in the preseason. Wilson did outplay Flynn, because he wasn't healthy and Seattle had little choice but to start Wilson. Part of the reason Carroll lost many of the veterans on the team last year is because he strayed from his "always compete" mantra when he trotted out Fat Eddie and an ineffective Rawls over the clearly superior Carson to start the 2017 season. The veterans in training camp were all in Carson's corner, and the players that faced him on a daily basis knew he was the best RB on the team. But Carroll strayed from his message and it cost the respect of several players in the locker room. Most notably Richard Sherman.

Carson and Penny will compete to be the RB1, but the "loser" will still have a weekly role as the "1B" back. Prosise is indeed slotted for 3rd down duty if he stays healthy for once. Eventually, possibly by midseason, I'd expect Penny to get most of the carries. Similar to how Kenneth Dixon was brought along while competing with Terrance West in Baltimore after he returned from his knee injury.

I’m not worried, at least not right now. The coaches are saying pretty much what I would expect them to say, it’s so early though. I will definitely be checking in to see how Penny looks in the preseason.

Pete Carroll is the most disingenuous head coach in the league. Trust nothing he says, ever.

As a Penny owner not too worried. Worst case scenario they split like Ingram and Kamara. Penny will do fine.

Haha "we need to get him on the field more" is the line that stays with me. He says things that they "need to do" even though he has all the power to do it.

I think it's a split either way, Carson is more of a thumper and that leaves Penny with more big play ability.

Last summer he was telling the world Eddie Lacy was a good football player.

Penny owners should be EXTREMELY worried and sell their shares to me at a deep discount.
