Advice on trading picks in a startup?

This is the place for team advice - should I make this trade, should I draft that player, etc.

Advice on trading picks in a startup?

Postby gunfrees » Tue Jul 31, 2018 8:16 am

I usually do redraft leagues but I've been invited to a 12 team standard dynasty startup league. Everyones new to dynasty so I was wondering what the strategy was for trading startup draft picks would be. Would I accumulate mid-round picks or late-round picks? What would be a fair trade, or a trade in my favor if I could make it happen? I'm 11th overall if it helps.

Thanks in advance!

not really sure what you are getting at but just always be willing to trade back, and try to make as many moves as possible to accumulate assets. like offer to move back a whole round in exchange for a 19 first. or give someone a one round move up but in exchange you get 3 different 1 round moves later. the best really is trading an early pick for 2 early picks. like trade a 2nd and 7th for a 3rd and 4th. something like that, guys get really excited about being able to pair 2 studs but it helps you get stronger starters.

Also, if I can ask here what's the value of a 2019 first round pick, and should I be trying to get one now?

in my opinion teams either try to accumulate 2019 picks or sell them for upgrades in the startup. usually, this is the cheapest they will be.

depends on the other 11 in your league. i've seen anywhere from a 4th to a 7th. i would look at the players who may be available in those rounds and decide if you would value them as a 2019 1st.

for a startup - I would trade all my picks for guys the 1st year. This tactic was used in our league and we laughed him out of the draft.......then he won the league. He had all starters and solid upside guys, while we were all banking on next years rookies who take time to develop.

If everyone is new to dynasty, then I would NOT make next year's picks available for trade during the start-up.
