2017 McCoy trade turns into portfolio of assets!!!

This is the place for team advice - should I make this trade, should I draft that player, etc.

2017 McCoy trade turns into portfolio of assets!!!

Postby Gronk » Fri Jul 20, 2018 3:14 pm

So last season when I realized I was out of contention I traded McCoy for Lee and a 2018 1st. I knew the 2018 1st would be top 4 which ended up being 1.04. I came in 2nd to last so I had the 1.02. I put the 1.02 on the block and had quite the interest but nothing seemed like much I'd be willing to move the 1.02 for. When I was otc @ 1.02 I got a text from one of the owners inquiring about the 1.02 and 1.04. My team is garbage at the rb position having only Mack as a possible starter. YUCK! After a bit of back and forth the interested owner made a trade with another team to trade with me. I gave the 1.02, 1.04, Eifert and John Brown for Mixon, 1.03 and 1.07! Well that just helped my RB situation immensely. When I was otc @ 1.03 I put the pick on the block (Guice was still there) and after a long back and forth with a few owners I traded the 1.03 for the 1.05 and 1.11!

I tried to trade again @ 1.05 but couldn't make anything work so I drafted Penny. I got Michel @ 1.07 and Sutton @ 1.11.
So in the end I gave McCoy, 1.02, Eifert and John Brown and received Mixon, Lee, Penny, Michel and Sutton.

PPR all td's 6 points Roster Requirements:
1 QB, 2 Rb, 3 WR, 1 RB/WR, 1 TE, 1 WR/TE, 1 K, 1 D/ST

My team:

QB Bortles, Taylor
RB Allen, Burkhead, Mack, McGuire, Michel, Mixon, Penny, Powell
WR Allison, Cooks, Hill, Kirk, Kupp, Landry, Lee, Sutton, White, Mike Williams
TE Kittle, Reed, Jonnu

I took this orphan over in the summer of 2015 and made several trades to get it where I feel I can be, at the very least, competitive.
I don't normally ask these types of questions but what would you do with this team? We're in the 2nd round of the rookie/fa draft and I just took Kirk @ 2.02. It's a 7 round draft and I have the 2nd pick in every round. Lot's of potential but what's my best play here?

Thanks for suffering through the long post!

Wow. Nice job. Can you list the order the of your first round rookie draft. Surprised Guice and Penny were there at 1.03 and 1.05.

Thanks for sharing, interesting order for sure. Seems like some guys are drafting for need, but you’re making out! Congrats.

I would’ve taken Chubb over Michel, and I’d rather have Guice than Michel/Chubb + Sutton, but nice work regardless. You still made out very well from where you started.
Both are 12-team 1QB PPR dynasties

Taxi: Willis, Z. White, M. Mims, T. Palmer

Hull Awaits

I got Penny at 1.05 and Sutton at 1.11 for Guice(1.03). I did struggle between Michel and Chubb @ 1.07 though. For better or worse, I talked myself into Michel with the thought and hope that he has a safer floor (as long as he don't fumble) for at least this year and possibly in the future. I figured that Cleveland paid Duke meaning Chubb won't see many 3rd downs. Since Michel, in theory, will catch a lot of passes he just seems safer. Might be flawed thinking but where my head is...

Correct thinking. Michel was also the higher prospect than Chubb and is on the highest flying offense in the nfl. Chubb is on the worst team in the NFL. Pretty easy to see why Michel>Chubb

I'm hoping I have enough to compete this year?!
I have a lot of prospects which doesn't always translate to wins. I may be able to make a couple more trades to acquire a couple studs.

I think the moral of this story, as with many in the past, is two-fold.

(a) dont overlook the value of a future 1st

(b) the more work you put in, the more reward you get.

Combined, even if you trade someone away that may, at the time, look to be like you traded them at a discount, if you are persistent, you can make future trades that will ensure the overall result is a solid win.
Please speak to clarion contrarion before considering the use of vetos..
