How many Qbs to take in Superflex?

This is the place for team advice - should I make this trade, should I draft that player, etc.

How many Qbs to take in Superflex?

Postby Revellea » Sat Jul 14, 2018 6:12 am

Hey all!
I am in the middle of my first superflex startup and was wondering how many QBs i really need for the season.

Its actually more of a value standpoint right now. Its a 14 team, 25 roster spot superflex, so waivers will be thin and at most only 4 teams can carry 3 starting qbs. Its the 15th round and all that is really left are one year starters like Bradford while there are still quality prospect wrs and rbs with decent opportunities on the board, as well as many tight ends.

I have two pretty good qbs already, is getting a 3rd necessary? Thanks.

3-4 is where I like to be at in my SF, injuries happen, teams draft QB's and trade capitol, bye weeks.

a third is necessary 100%.

Are you saying that you can only take 3 QBs from roster limits ? ... I would def take bradford that late you can probably sell him for a lot first week of the year but tbh you do need 3 starting QBs anyway , If you can take more than 3 load up on them and trade them first week for needs.

This (a discussion/argument I’m having in another thread but which is more relevant here due to superflex). You should try to have 3 for byes or injury security. Any extra you get can create a position shortage you can exploit to get future picks or players taken earlier in the draft.

For example, in a large (16-24) team league I had Tannehill as my only QB last year. When he went down and none were available I either had to pay what someone with extra QBs demanded or tank. I got lucky and heard the Cutler news first and grabbed him, which saved me from getting fleeced due to shortage.

Thanks for the advice.

@Ares: I was saying that since there are 14 teams, most teams will be at a disadvantage of only having 2 starting qbs on their roster just because if every team has two, thats 28 qbs and there are only 4 more starting qbs left. We can take as many as we want.

There are really only one or two "starters" left (bradford and Mccown) and then a lot of backup qbs (Brisset, Mccarron, Bridgewater, Foles, Fitzpatrick)

How would you guys approach qb at the end of this draft?

I would take Bradford and McCown then , 14 teams if you end up with 4 there are going to be some without a backup.. Any teams not have a starting QB at all ?

No, every team has at least 2 qbs right now, maybe 3 teams have 3 and 2 teams have 4.

Brissett & Fitzpatrick is avoid. McCarron & Foles are iffy (depends on position battle & Wentz health, respectively). Bridgewater I’d be willing to take a late flyer on tho

As many as are worth taking.

It's different for every draft, league, roster/starting/scoring settings though

I try to maintain at minimum 3 starters (top20) and another 1-2, depending on roster depth. In rookie drafts i usually take one as I usually draft 6-12, always more hype on the "IT" RB/WR in my leagues.

I'd want 3 if possible, but if Bradford is the best remaining QB and there are better options at other positions, I'd pass on him. You might even be better going after some of the backup QBs that have higher upsides.

3 dependable starting QB is my minimum. Covers bye weeks and injuries. Then i try and land a 4th whether its a rookie or a low end starter. I prefer 4 honestly.

3 starters. I could see a guy like teddy bridgewatee holding value in future seasons if he shows well. I’m in a SF draft right now, I took Wilson in the first, Luck in the third (if he’s healthy that could be a steal ) and Darnold in the 10th.

Absolutely 3+ QBs. I’m in a couple 16 team superflex leagues and I never feel like I have enough.

One league (been going on for probably 6 or 7 seasons now) I have Wentz, Bortles, Bridgewater, and Mason Rudolph. I would love to have a stronger 3rd option behind Wentz and Bortles, but it’s nearly impossible to acquire one without overpaying.

In my experience, the startup is the best time to get your cornerstone QBs. Their values will be the cheapest there. I would easily take 2 QBs in the first three rounds, and even consider a 3rd QB in the first 6 or 7 rounds. I did two 12 team superflex startups this offseason and tried a couple different strategies. In one of the leagues, I went Garappolo in the 2nd, grabbed Luck in the 4th, Mahomes in the 6th, and took a shot on Bridgewater in the 16th. I am very happy with that QB situation and I know that I can strengthen my RB/WR/TE core through trades/draft/WW easier than QBs.

In the other superflex startup, I went Wentz 1.01 overall, and then was able to grab Stafford at the end of the 2nd, and Bridgewater in the 12th. I am not happy at all with my team, even though I feel confident in Wentz and Stafford.
I would have preferred to grab a 3rd QB in the 6th-10th round somewhere, but the draft didn’t play out like that. But again, I can hopefully have some waiver luck and find some diamonds in the rough.

Moral of the story, you can’t have too many QBs in a superflex. Even if those QBs aren’t putting up numbers in your starting lineup, you are at least keeping them from putting up points for another team.
