Fresh Material - Darkhorses for 2018

This is the place for team advice - should I make this trade, should I draft that player, etc.

Fresh Material - Darkhorses for 2018

Postby snuffalupicus » Fri Jul 13, 2018 3:54 pm

If you're like me you're probably tired of hearing about the same marquee players being traded, etc.

I'm curious to hear everyone's thoughts on any players that can be considered as "darkhorses" going into the 2018 season and beyond. Teams seemingly have lost patience or interest with players like Sammy Watkins, Allen Robinson, etc. Elite athletes that could be late bloomers in the right situation/change of scenery, different team. Or players that are 3rd string, are one injury away and haven't had a chance to shine yet.

Does Chad Williams build on his preseason hype from last season with a new coach that gives him playing time?

Does Josh Doctson finally get it and catch on?

I've read buzz on Enunwa and Robby Anderson, Zay Jones, Rico Gathers, Jordan Wilkins, Dean Cain, Kenneth Dixon, Josh Malone, David Moore, Ricky Seals-Jones, Anthony Miller and Mike Williams.

Does Thomas Rawls or Jordan Reed have a revival?

Who are your darkhorses and WHY? Do you like any of the players mentioned?

Kelvin Benjamin- Going to go under the radar. Now with McCoy out(?) and no other real options in the passing game he’ll be the centrepiece of the offence (albeit a poor one).

Mitchell Trubisky- The shackles will be off this year and he has a load more (upgraded) options in the passing game with Robinson, Burton and Cohen (will get more plays suited to him). Trubisky will be a great BYE week filler and I think could be a genuine QB1 in his third season when he has a solid year this time around.

Benjamin has always been good for RZ targets. I hope he can stay healthy and not overweight.

I added Trubisky this offseason...I'm a believer from the little I saw last season.

I hold Trubisky and not much is being said about him. Nagy will let him call the shots this year and he’ll be more than just a game manager. I think he’s a great buy low candidate right now.

My definition of dark horse is a player that is way under the radar so Doctson, Rawls don't apply. I'll take Mack Hollins and Chase Edmonds

QB: Prescott, Foles
RB: Barkley, P Barber, Duke, Gio Bernard, Gus, C Thompson, Breida, Ekeler

Chase Edmonds? I had to look him up. He looks like a little scat back. He would definitely need a DJ injury to be productive. I like Mack Hollins last year. Evidently, so did Wentz. Let's see if he grows.

I like Trubisky, but I actually feel like he's been hyped a lot here recently. People are taking him ahead of guys like Carr and Prescott.

cameron meredith has been forgotten, he was injured all last year but in 2016 as a sophomore he had a 66/880/4 line. He is 6'3 and only 25 and can be had cheap.

my favorite topic....the buy lows.

op, you mentioned a lot of the guys id suggest. hopefully i can add a few more to the pot....doug martin is an interesting case, as is brandon marshall if he sticks.......both could be had for pennies if you "wanted to own them".

shaheen and joe williams are guys that id look at if looking deeper. the burton and mckinnon signing have both of these guys value down. but shaheen and williams are both better than the guys signed.

i dont like to bring up fliers this time of year, but i think both justin watson and ian thomas are "must owns" in our normal leagues.

I have to be lower on Trubisky than anyone on this board. He’s why I’m tempering all immediate expectations on guys like ARob and Miller who I really like. Nagy has to help but I just don’t see Trubisky ever being more than a low end QB2 or QB3.

Tyrell Williams and/or Cameron Meredith are very solid dark horses. Neither are highly valued (at least in my league), but both have proven to have high ceilings.

I picked up Ian Thomas at 5.09 of the rookie draft and I’ve been eyeing Watson. Would you drop anyone from my team to pick him up? I can’t see that anyone is droppable tbh.

Just going through my teams guys I like.

Snead had a very good first 2 years and didn't play last year could bounce back.
Allison for GB can be the Adams of last year.
White if he can stay healthy has massive talent.
Reed like a top 3 TE in ppg since he started but can't stay healthy , if he does he is a stud.
JMatt most talent WR in NE with the greatest QB ever can put up Welker/Edelman numbers if he starts off nice in the slot.
Clay can be a top 5 TE with not much else in Buff. to go to.
Tyrell Williams has Julio type skills if he just gets the ball more.
Pryor can bounce back depending on where he lands in the depth chart.

Some others that cost more but people are down on.
Mack , Cobb , Stills , Parker , Ajayi , Drake , Hogan , Dez , DT , Watkins , Miller can all land top 10-20 in their position maybe a couple of them top 10.

Now I know of course there are going to be busts or injuries but most of these guys are cheap enough to take a chance on.

No one’s talking about Snead and Tyrod. Those 2 are in good situations.
