Grade my moves on this new Orphan

This is the place for team advice - should I make this trade, should I draft that player, etc.

Grade my moves on this new Orphan

Postby jp4703 » Fri Jul 13, 2018 11:39 am

So in the beginning of this off-season I took over my first Orphan team that needed a complete rebuild. I'll list the starting roster, along with the trades I made, and the players I drafted below. I want to see how you guys think I've done so far.

Roster I got:
QB: Brady, Flacco and P. Rivers.
RB: D. Cook, D. Henry, F. Gore, E. Lacy, D. Murray, L. Murray, S. Vereen, and C. West
WR: R. Cobb, M. Crabtree, E. Decker, T. Ginn, J. Maclin, P. Richardson, C. Kupp, and M. Wheaton.
TE: J. Witten, D. Allen

Trades:
1) Gave: Cobb, 3.04 - Got: 2.12, and 3.02.
2) Gave: Crabtree, 2.04 - Got: Curtis Samuel and 1.12.
3) Gave: Dalvin Cook - Got: 1.07 and 1.08 (screwed this one up)
4) Gave: D. Murray and 2.12 - Got: Geronimo Allison and 2.08
5) Gave: L. Murray and 4.04 - Got 3.10 and 2019 2nd round pick.
6) Gave: Tom Brady - Got: M. Trubisky and 3.04.
7) Gave: J. Maclin - Got: John Brown
8) Gave: D. Henry and 1.12 - Got: Sammy Watkins, 2 2019 First Round Picks(one is projected top 3)
9) Gave: J. Witten - Got: 4.04
10) Gave: 3.04 and 3.10 - Got: Chester Rodgers, 4.05, 2019 3rd, 2019 4th (draft day trade)
11) Gave: 2019 4th round pick - Got: 4.06: turned into Josh Allen

Draft:
1.04: R. Penny
1.07: S. Michel
1.08: R. Freeman
2.08: J. Rosen
3.02: S. Darnold
4.04: Vance McDonald
4.05: Ito Smith
4.06: J. Allen

So I stacked up on RB's in the beginning of the draft and then I just took what fell to me. It just so happens nobody went QB and I ended up with 3/4 of the QB's in this draft. I don't think it was bad because in the future they will hold more trade value if they hit.

Current Roster:
QB: P. Rivers, M. Trubisky, J. Rosen, S. Darnold, J. Allen.
RB: R. Penny, S. Michel, R. Freeman, I. Smith, F. Gore, E. Lacy, S. Vereen.
WR: S. Watkins, C. Kupp, G. Allison, J. Brown, T. Ginn, P. Richardson, C. Rodgers, C. Samuel, E. Decker.
TE: V. McDonald
2019 Picks: 3 Firsts(2 should be top 3), 2 2nds, 2 3rds, and 4th.

Let me know how you think I've done so far.

real good now hang tight and take some high end WR next year with those first and you will be on the way to competing.

PS all trades seem pretty good but that trade 10 makes no sense, why target chester rodgers??

trade 3 was saved by michel and freeman being available, i dont see those 2 as poor return for cook

I targeted Chester Rodgers because I thought he'd be the WR2 in a offense ran by Luck. I completely forgot they have Ryan Grant also and that he got paid good money this off-season.

Those picks turned out to become Keke Coutee, and Willie Snead so looking back at it I did kind of screw up there. If I kept those picks there was actually a lot of rookies still available that are in good situation right now.

I guess you can't always win.

I think you did well overall, but most of those trades were minimal upgrades that won't have a huge impact. You still have a lot of work to do with your WRs, but you're definitely headed in the right direction. I also like most of the picks you made in the draft.

Yeah, the plan is to go WR heavy in next years draft or try to trade for a stud WR during the season.

I'm hoping to compete next year, just gotta hope these rookie RB's hit.

Overall not bad at all, love your rookie draft and think you got some solid value on your lesser assets but that Cook trade is gut wrenching....1.08 and 1.07!?!? he should be easily worth more than any rookie not named Barkley. Would've stuck with the stud but at least you got lucky landing Michel so late at 1.07 to mitigate the terrible trade.

At the time I didn’t like the injury history that cook came with which is what made me do this trade. I actually sent out that trade offer and the other owner instantly accepted it. Slowly throughout the offseason I started looking into cook and his situation and realized how much of a mistake I made and actually ended up trading for him in my main league. If Michel and Freeman both hit then I’ll be happy about that trade, if not I’ll probably regret that one.

Very nice; Not your first rodeo.

You desperately need to get top tier TE and you have the assets to make that happen.

I might actually try and go after Hunter Henry at some point before next season. Just hoping some of my WR's come through this season so I have some more trade assets.
