Hopkins for Evans+

This is the place for team advice - should I make this trade, should I draft that player, etc.

Hopkins for Evans+

Postby Mefisto » Tue Jun 26, 2018 12:40 pm

Hey all, for team 1 in the sig, we don't have a wire and I'm trying to shore up my stable of RBs for now and the future as well as still trying to get my grubby hands on Chubb. Would you offer Hopkins and something small for Mike Evans and Chubb?

So I know the answers will probably mostly be no and I get it. Hopkins is a consensus top 3 WR and taken in the top of the first round in startups but remember literally one year ago that was where Evans was? To me it really depends on what the "little something" is.

So right now this is all just a dream in my head. Debating whether to even offer it. Was thinking of starting at like Hopkins and a 2019 3rd for those 2 and seeing where it goes.

I'd stick with Hopkins but given your RB situation it makes sense. I wouldn't offer much more than that however. Might be in the minority here though

Not sure I'd move Hopkins alone for that, but it's close. If you really want Chubb and are high on Evans, I'd offer it straight up, but I'm not adding anything significant.

Remember last year when Evans was a consensus top pick like Nuk is this year. Recency bias at its finest. Id move Nuk and something small for evans and chubb quite easily!

If Evans was a consensus top pick last year it must have been an incredibly small sample size. Hopkins had 111 receptions in 2015. In 2016 with 5-6 QB's he still managed 78 receptions and last season he was the top WR in fantasy.

Nothing wrong with the trade but consensus is not something I buy into. That said "Recency Bias" , nice term, is a real affliction suffered by many.

Only problem I have with that is, what was Evans' excuse for having a down season? If it's Winston, he's not going anywhere soon. Hopkins at least had a good reason where his production suffered in 2016 and bounced back like I expected him to last year when his QB changed. What's going to change with Evans to expect such a big jump in his production? And for what it's worth, I like Evans plenty, but Chubb doesn't bridge the gap completely for me.

I still have questions on Evans. For whatever Winston's issues, injuries ect where, Tampa was still a top passing offense in the league in total yards.

Evans still wasn't great.

I also VERY high on Evans supporting cast though. I think Godwin is a better 'all around' WR than Evans for instance so I'm on a ledge possibly.

Lot to like about Evans but he is a single speed player. He overcomes his weaknesses to a degree but you are right to have questions.

Truth is...there's a big difference in the abilities of Hopkins and Evans. Hopkins has performed time and time again regardless of who is his quarterback. The same cannot be said for Evans. Winston is suspended for 3 games and I'm sure Evans output will suffer again. Hopkins is just more dynamic and if Watson can stay healthy I think Hopkins' stats will be ridiculous! Evans also has a lot more talent to contend with targets unlike Hopkins' situation. Evans is good, Hopkins is just better.
