SF startup strategy?? update after 9th rd

Postby tom14cat14 » Fri Jun 22, 2018 12:54 pm

I am only in 1 other SF so i do not have a ton of startup experience. What do you guys usually shoot for? Any tips? We are at the end of round 3. I had 1.01.

So far i have Gurley, Adams and Jimmy G. What direction do you guys suggest and or what is your general plan of attack. So far everyone wants to trade back so very little trading.

Update through 9th

Jimmy G., Ryan, Rossen
Gurley, R. Freeman, D. Henry
Adams
Oj Howard, H. Henry

I’d take the top rated qb with your next pick, unless theres a stud rb around. Had my first sf start up this year (team 2) and I wish I had another stud qb. Depending on scoring I’d go: qb, rb, we & te in that order.

Yup QBs. Young QBs. Take the safe floor. In my superflex startup (2010), I grabbed Brees at 1.12 & Stafford at 5.12. Lots of guys (like Kevin Kolb) came & went before my Stafford pick. You don't want to get left out in the Kol(b)d.

Every future rookie draft will have lots of QB going in round 1 as your competition attempts to play catch-up. That pushes you better RBs & WRs.

RB depth takes a hit in superflex. You never want to be starting 3 RBs, as superflexing your 2nd QB will lock you into a 2RB lineup. So I like to go a little more boom or bust on my RB stable after I lock in my main starters.

I like the start. Agreed, next pick needs to include a QB. If it's thinning out don't be afraid to trade up for one.

So I am 4 picks away from my back to back picks. QB’S have been going. Right now Brady, Big Ben, a. Smith, Ryan, Trubisky, Rivers, the rookies plus lower tier QB’s. Thinking of going back to back. The other layers are interesting but i feel i need QB’s. As of not top other players: AJ Green, Gronk, D. Freeman, Diggs, Howard, Robinson, r jones, Chubb. So i am split between QB QB or about QB RB.

I know its tempting to try to capitalize on all the talent that falls because other people are snatching up QB's but once the league gets going for a few years you'll find its the hardest position to trade for and the absolute easiest to move for other assets. I'd go trubisky and a safer guy like Matt Ryan back to back.

Ok I am on the clock now. I picked Ryan with my first of 2. Trub is gone pick before mine. I am thinking Rosen. Freeman, Howard, Diggs, Gronk are around. But I like the idea of getting a 3rd and young QB.

I would have went Diggs there, but its never a bad idea to grab a QB. We just dont know what Rosen will be.

A few things I am learning from this draft. I do not like being at the ends of drafts. We did where you rank your place you want to draft and then the site works it out. I went for 1st thinking I could trade down. No luck with that. Being at the end has made me over draft some because there is such a long gap and worried I will miss a run. I am counting on finding sleepers in WR's. I am also thinking I will not really be competing this year so my pick in the 9th was H. Henry.

I have updated OP with who I have drafted so far.
