Gordon for David Johnson

This is the place for team advice - should I make this trade, should I draft that player, etc.

Gordon for David Johnson

Postby hudini33 » Wed Jun 20, 2018 9:50 am

So an owner has approached me offering David Johnson. He said he wants M Gordon and Diggs out of the deal, and would add something to his side. His roster is:

QB: Rodgers, Keenum
RB: DJ, Henry, McKinnon, Drake, Ja Williams, D Murray, Booker, Lynch
WR: Lee, Sanders, Woods, Cobb, JMatt, Stills, Crabtree
TE: Hooper, Rudolph

My thought was coming back with this:

I give: Gordon, Diggs, 2019 2nd
I get: DJ, Drake, Woods, 2019 1st

I feel like I'm not asking for enough. But thought I should conult the forum

There is a zero percent chance your offer is accepted. I'd say Johnson + 2nd for Gordon + Diggs is fair.

I know I can get more than a 2nd on top, because this guy is a Vikes fan, and is really high on Gordon.

Not a big fan of Woods and Drake but I’d say your counter is a fair one, albeit a little weighted to your side

I prefer DJ alone to Gordon+Diggs. Can’t imagine your counter being accepted but get all you can. Even dropping the 1st, if you can get DJ/Drake/Woods for Gordon/Diggs/2nd that is an absolute steal.

I like Gordon a lot, but you're going to have to remove the 1st from the DJ side and probably one of Drake and Woods as well, if not both.

I don't understand the people saying don't send the offer and that there's 0% chance it gets accepted. You miss 100% of the trades you don't send offers on! I actually like your idea of the counter and if the guy is really high on Gordon and is a Vikings fan, it has a decent shot of being accepted.

The problem with sending just any old counter is that if it's unreasonable, as this one appears to be, it can torpedo negotiations. Offering a lopsided counter demonstrates that either the two sides' values are too far off to get something done or that the side sending the lopsided counter is trying to rip off the other guy, and either one of those perceptions can kill the current and future trades between the two teams.

Update:

I countered with

I give: Diggs, Gordon, 2019 2nd
I get: DJ, Woods, Drake

He said he doesn't think he can give two RBs unless Drake is changed to Jamaal Williams, or Lynch. He said Henry may be possible.

Thoughts?

Putting the draft picks in the offer is where you lost me... And depending on where people value Drake, he's probably too much in here as well.

Sometimes offers are so insulting they kill any negotiations. Even though he approached the OP, a very lopsided offer may make him feel like they’re too far apart to find middle ground. That counter is very very lopsided.

Slam dunk for me. My valuations are like this:

DJ >> Gordon
Henry = Diggs
and Woods is free to boot...
