Trade Kerryon Johnson for 2019 1st (mid-late), Trey Burton, 3.12?

Postby bwhauf » Tue Jun 19, 2018 7:55 pm

Superflex league so the pick will be better than it looks (Ex: I drafted K. Johnson at 1.11)

Give: Kerryon Johnson
Get: '19 1st (mid-late), Trey Burton, 3.12

Thoughts?

Roster/league specifics would be very useful. Superflex is useful, but how many teams? Who're your TEs? Any answer I give could easily be changed once I have more info.
League #1- 14 tm ppr, 1Q, 2R, 3W, 1T, 1 R/W/T, 1K
1 DT, 2 DE, 2 LB, 1 CB, 1 S, 1 flex

League #2- 12 team PPR, 1Q, 1R, 2W, 1T, 1 R/W/T, 1 W/R/T, 1 Def

League #3- 12 tm PPR, 1Q, 0R (yes, ZERO RB) 3W, 1T, 2 R/W/T flex, 1 Def

I think this depends on the team. If you are in need of a RB I would probably just hold Kerryon. But, if you are set on RB and need TE help that would swing this to the other side.
In a vacuum I'd say they are pretty dang even.

If selling Kerryon I think you'll be able to get more if you hold for now.

My bad, it's the team in my signature and I just updated my roster.

It's a 12 team league and we start 1 QB, 1 SF, 2 RB, 3 WR, 1 TE, and 1 FLEX. I have Greg Olsen, Charles Clay, and Benjamin Watson at TE. Serviceable, but not great. And Melvin Gordon, McCoy, Tevin Coleman, and Crowell at RB, which is a bit better.

If they're even, I'd probably lean towards keeping Kerryon because I like his tape and I'm not sure what to expect from Burton. I'm just not sure how to value the '19 1st because this current draft feels really deep to me, but I don't know much about the 2019 rookie class.

In your situation I'd keep Kerryon, too. Gordon has been good, but I'm not sold on him long term. McCoy has a couple years left but you can't really count on him like you used to be able to. I like Coleman but he could be a year out from giving you starting caliber numbers. You can get by with OK TE's easier than average RB's. Burton has gotten a lot of excitement this offseason but there is still a lot of unknown in Chicago.
Teams that trade up for RB's must have seen something in them. Kerryon isn't as sexy as the other RB's in this class- and going to Detroit didn't help that, but I believe that is causing people to undervalue him.

So far the 2019 class has been has been seen as quite the downgrade from this year. Granted, much can change in a year.

I like it a lot. Johnson is worth an early 2nd to me in superflex, so you're picking up an extra 2nd and 3rd for free.

Kerryon is not even really worth a mid 1st in a SFlex league. You get that and a free Burton and 3rd round pick? I'll take that all day

Market wise the value is pretty even, it would make more sense to hold in my opinion. I like Kerryon a lot and think his value will easily be going up.

With your roster your team is ready to compete now. I’d hold Johnson with McCoys age and depleted o-line. I think with the new leadership in Detroit they will look to finally have a 100 yard rusher. I heard a stat that Stafford has only had 7 100 rushing games since he’s played in Detroit, totally amazing to me. Decker is healthy at LT, they added a 1 st rd pick to the o-line, I think Johnson can grab the reins and be the main rb.

I think Johnson's value will stay about the same through this year and would be equal to the 1st next year so getting the add-on's is a win for me.

Thanks for the advice everybody. I was on the fence so he changed the 3.12 to the 3.1 and I accepted.

I figure I can get a decent player at that spot (it’s Hines/Pettis/Tre’Quan/Ballage range in superflex). And while I like Kerryon, I think it’s worth it to trade him for 3 players/picks that could all be valued higher than him by next year.

Update: Ended up trading the 3.1/3.5 to get the 2.8 and took Anthony Miller. Pretty happy with the results of this trade.
