Jay Ajayi Value Check

This is the place for team advice - should I make this trade, should I draft that player, etc.

Agree with this.

This is a weird argument because in terms of straight talent Ajayi would arguably be the most talented RB in this class outside of Barkley if he was thrown in with them.

Surely you can't think that Kerryon Johnson is more talented than Ajayi?

That's what I was about to say , Ajayi would have been a 1st round NFL pick if the knee thing didn't come up right before the draft. I just think people see he was taken in the 5th round because of this but know nothing about football..

How many active RBs had 3 200 yard games in one year ? jw Edit - Oh I forgot he did it in 11 starts , I mean are people high he just had almost 1300 rushing , 8 TDs in 2016 in 11 starts on a bad team lol

Of which he has gobs...

Ajayi possesses a toolkit of size, explosion, power, & speed that is almost unrivaled in the NFL right now. He can do things that probably only Fournette, Zeke, & maybe Gurley can do. Other than Fournette, Ajayi has the best combo of size, power, & burst since AP in his prime.

His flaws are two-fold. He's not an asset in the passing game, and (this is obviously his biggest negative trait) the 6" between his ears seems to be a bit jacked up. On-field, there aren't too many more backs with better talent than him.

This one is the weirdest part to me, because he was probably the most prolific receiver in college of any current NFL RB. He caught 50 passes his final year in college, which is more than McCaffrey, Tomlinson, Bush, Kamara, Ray Rice, Faulk, SJax, Sproles, Woodhead, or pretty much anyone had in a season.

It's weird that he's always been such a dud as a receiver in the NFL.

Yeah that is odd. As you all know I love Ajayi, but he is awkward at best when catching and running. He's not terrible, but he definitely needs to stop and focus on the catch and then get back to running, as opposed to guys like Kamara, Gordon, Mixon, etc who simply take the ball in stride and keep going.

Haha, fair enough, I will certainly admit that for KJ and Chubb, I’m extremely high on these guys. I’m not so high on Penny, Michel, Jones, don’t really have much fever to have these guys on my team, but I would say I’d like them over Ajayi.

1.06-1.07 for me. I'd debate very long with myself if I was OTC and someone offered me RoJo or Ajayi....other than that I'm taking Chubb/Michel/Penny/Guice/Barkley all over him without a second thought.

I was all in on his talent too. Paid a steep price for him last year. Got him before the 350 carry year, top 5 rb hype train left the station. He had a really disappointing year. He looked far inferior to Kenyon Drake running with the same dumpster fire offense in Miami. He got 8 carries a game with the eagles but managed 5.8 yards per carry! He rarely catches the ball as mentioned, doesn’t seem to have a nose for the end zone, maybe that changes without Blount. He was almost isntartable last year, even on the best team in football, I get he was traded mid season and that’s tough, but even at flex I cringed. The most concerns thing about the guy is the fact that he couldn’t practice all week after barely touching the football. From a medical perspective of someone who has worked on high level athletes his knee has always concerned me. My plan was to get in at the right time, enjoy his blow up, then deal him for a gain. I sold my share and broke even, which I’m happy with. He can’t practice the whole week with 8 carries. This is a critical point in his value. I sold the “best oline, best team, 5.8 ypc” too. Because right now you can sell him as a rb1 who had multiple 200 yard games. He underperforms this year or his knee gets any worse you won’t sniff a mid first in value. I’m out like Caitlyn Jenner.
