9 rounds through my start-up...how do I look so far?

This is the place for team advice - should I make this trade, should I draft that player, etc.

9 rounds through my start-up...how do I look so far?

Postby joeday » Wed Jun 13, 2018 8:11 pm

12 team, PPR scoring. 1QB, 2-3RBs, 2-3WRs, 1-2TEs. I drew the 2nd overall pick in the snake draft start up.

1.2 - Todd Gurley - Barkley went at 1.1 so I felt I ended up with 1.1...thought about Zeke here, but I prefer Gurley.
2.11 - Amari Cooper - At 2.09 and 2.10 Tyreek Hill and Joe Mixon were stolen in front of me...considered DFreeman or ARob.
3.2 - Travis Kelce - I went against the grain and took Kelce over DFreeman or ARob...I like having an elite TE.
4.8 - Brandin Cooks - I traded 4.11, 5.2, 7.2 to move up to 4.8 to take Cooks (I also got 5.5 and 7.5)...considered taking JuJu.
5.1 - Jerick McKinnon - I traded 5.5, 6.11 to move up to 5.1 to take McKinnon (I also got 7.9)...kind of, but not really, considered DHenry.
7.5 - Cooper Kupp - With no picks in the 6th I was pleased to get Kupp here but hate having him and Cooks...considered Marvin Jones.
7.9 - Kerryon Johnson - Pretty shocked he lasted this long considering RFreeman went 2 rounds earlier...still considered Marvin Jones.
8.11 - Marvin Jones - Well I looking at him at 7.5 and he was still here so I pulled the trigger...still considered Marvin Jones lol.
9.2 - David Njoku - The value here just felt too good to pass up on...considered Chris Thompson.

QB -
RB - Todd Gurley | Jerick McKinnon | Kerryon Johnson
WR - Amari Cooper | Brandin Cooks | Cooper Kupp | Marvin Jones
TE - Travis Kelce | David Njoku

Probably going to look at QB with the 11.2 spot.

So what are your thoughts on how I did so far?

It looks really good to me. There’s not really anything that I would’ve done differently except maybe AROB over Cooper but I think Cooper is the safer choice but maybe not the potential ceiling of AROB, either way, it’s close. Getting Kelce and still getting Cooks was huge and I love Njoku, I’ve actually taken him in the 7th round in a couple of startups. I’m not sure why he dropped to the 9th round but that’s a steal, especially with already having Kelce, it’s not like you have to have immediate production out of him. These next few rounds, other than getting your QB, I would get some veteran RBs like Crowell, maybe Rex Burkhead later on, to round out your RBs.

So I both agree and disagree with you on this one.

I agree for the obvious reason...taking a rookie at 1.1 when there are young stud RBs and elite WRs available is ridiculous.

I disagree for a not so obvious reason...the guy who got 1.1 used to be in a ton of leagues with me. I've known him since the 90s when we got into our first fantasy football league together. After the 2016 season he dropped out of all but two of his leagues...I wanna say it was like 8 total he dropped out of (not sure if it was money or relationship related). He stayed in our two main leagues (the two in my signature). He is a HUGE Penn State fan (most people from central PA are...I am not lol) and he has zero chance of getting him in either of those two leagues. Not only did he make the finals in one and the playoffs in the other (so he has low picks) but most of the people in the leagues are also Penn State fans. So when he got 1.1 in this start up he was going to take Zeke or Gurley but then decided since this was his only chance at Barkley he would take him. I will admit if a top 5 NFL draft pick was an RB from Pitt, I would do the same lol.

i like gurley and kelce

you got a team that will either be pretty good or terrible. i think you took a lot of not very safe players.

like taking 2 wrs from a team that spreads the ball a ton and who play on the same team as your RB who you already know will dominate touches for said team

Take a lot of safe floor guys here on out is my advice.
team 1
12 team, 1 pt for 4 rec, 0.1 per rush
1qb, 3 rb, 4 wr, te, k, 4 idp
Dak , Herbert
Achane, Breece Hall, KW3Kyren,Ford, Miller, Spiller, z evans, singletary
J Jefferson, Diggs, DK, D Smith Puka, C Watson, E Moore
Njoku , HH, Engram

2024 picks
1,3,4,5,5,6,7 (all late mostly)

team 2
12 team .5ppr
qb, 2 rb, 2 wr, te, flx,flx,
Fields, Dak
Ford,Mixon, Javonte, Mostert, Chubb, Spears
Hopkins, Evans, g Wilson Mingo, shaheed, Jamo
Kelce,McBride, Chig,

1,2,3,3,5

team 3
14 team sf, even scoring idp to offense (rb scores highly too)
Josh Allen, A Rich, Foles, Rudolph
Bijan, Charbs, Spears, Ebner
J Williams, G Wilson, C Watson, Flowers, J Addison, Tillman
Kincaid, Kolar, Ruckert, Fergeson

Kenny Clark, josh allen, jaelen phillips, felix a-u and a bunch of fluff and rookie fliers at idp

Overall it's pretty solid, though I'm not a fan of Cooper at 2.11. I definitely would've taken Hill there had you not gotten sniped, and I probably would've gone with Robinson instead.

My main criticism is that you've waited much longer on a QB than I would have. And I don't like the selection of Kupp. You got extremely lucky that Marvin Jones was still there. It would look more logical if those selections were flipped.
If you can't leave at least a 20% tip, you can't afford to eat out.

I am 3 picks away and the QBs left are Matt Ryan, Matthew Stafford, Goff, Mahomes, Mariota, Rivers, Dak and Winston. Leaning Ryan, Stafford or Goff. Thoughts?

Goff if you want young upside, Stafford for steady veteran. Goff put up good numbers for his 1st year with McVay (2nd total), so I would probably go that route.

Very good picks but I would have taken AROB and JuJu.

for QB I'd go Goff or Ryan. If you want to be bold, wait a little and take Mahomes. He has a ton of weapons which should make him succeed.

Goff if you want the entire LA offense. Ryan seems to always dissapoint when i roster him and Stafford is somewhat of a tease, but i still might go either one of them over having so many Rams.

Stafford. If he's gone, I would consider waiting longer as the rest are all kind of the same to me...what skill position guys are left?
