Sutton or Trey Burton at 2.01?

This is the place for team advice - should I make this trade, should I draft that player, etc.

Sutton or Trey Burton at 2.01?

Postby Jcedwards » Mon Jun 04, 2018 8:12 am

Who you like if both are available at 2.01?

Burton could be a star and they paid him a good bit of money, so he will be a valuable piece of that offense, which could be really good this year with the weapons they have added. They still do have another capable TE in Shaheen that could make Burton's stock take a little bit of a hit. I feel like I have a good roster that can potentially lead me to a championship, but I feel that TE is a question mark. Njoku is going to be good, but he is still young, so I am not exactly sure of his stock this year, and Eifert is elite when he does play, but he cant stay on the field.

I believe Sutton is going to be a star, but it will not happen this year with Sanders and Thomas there. However, I do believe one or both of them will be gone after the year, so Sutton could break out potentially starting next year. My WR core is pretty good already, so I can afford to take Sutton and wait on him.

I feel like Sutton is the better pick here, but I feel like Burton could help my team more, but is 2.01 too early too take him? I could also take Sutton and look to get Kittle in the 3rd round, if that is a better option.

If you’re not sold on Sutton or any other rookie with that pick, I’d be willing to bet someone else is and you could move a little deeper into the 2nd and get something else on top while still getting Burton with the later 2nd

I like Kittle over Burton even in a win-now/redraft setting, so in dynasty, I’d easily take Kittle. I do think Sutton has a higher ceiling than either of them, but as you said, he likely won’t do much this year and could probably be bought at a discount midseason or next offseason. What makes you think Kittle will fall to the 3rd?

Oh no it's not that I'm not sold. I'm actually the opposite. I think he will be legit, but it will take a few years IMO. I'm just not sure whether it is best to take him based on my team needs or whether he should be the pick regardless.

I think you have to go Sutton here. Burton could help, but I like the prospect of Njoku on your team, and Eifert could make a comeback. Sutton is a year or two away, but I think could be in the late WR1/WR2 range for his career.

That's true about Sutton potentially being bought at a discount next season, but that is no guarantee. Owner that does take him may see him the same way I do and not trade him for cheap. But Kittle may be gone in the 3rd. I guess it is just a hunch that I have that he will be there then.

I could try. I'm not big on Graham, because GB doesn't use TE's well. There aren' t many other elite TE's. I've inquired on Kelce, but owner isn't trading him. I don't want Gronk honestly, because he can't stay healthy and I think he is done after this year. I haven't checked with Ertz owner yet, but I think Ertz may be his only TE, so I'd probably have to include Njoku/ Eifert. I don't want Engram (only because I have OBJ and I will have Saquon). Hunter Henry is another option, but obviously that won't help this year.

So we have our draft in just under 2 weeks. My pick is actually now 2.04 not 2.01 (based on the way we finished- finished 9/12 in regular season standings, but won consolation bracket- got pick 1.01 from that, but all other rounds are based on regular season finish). IF both of these are there, would you all still take Sutton over Burton, even with my TE situation?

I honestly don't understand the Burton love...isn't it possible Shaheen continues to develop?

I actually ended up with both. Traded both of my 3rd round picks for 2.07. Took Burton at 2.04 (only reason for that is because guy with 2.05 and 2.06 was slack at TE, so I figured the chance of Burton being there at 2.07 was very small compared to Sutton) and then Sutton wasn’t taken 2.05 or 2.06, so I scooped him up at 2.07.
